Constructed in 1907, St. Andrew's Hall is was the historic meeting site for the St. Andrew's Scottish Society of Detroit. This iconic venue, has hosted a multitude of live acts and is a favorite of Detroiters young and old. The largest location, the Main Ballroom, features a hardwood dance floor, a bar over 35 feet long, an in-house sound and lighting system as well as a unique VIP balcony level offering prime viewing opportunities of the stage. City Theatre is a 400-seat theatre in the Hockeytown Café building in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. City theater produces and presents a wide variety of attractions from concerts, comedy shows theatrical performances and corporate events. Originally called "Second City Theater" the venue was home to a resident Second City comedy troup. After the departure of Second City the theater adopted its current name "City Theater" in 2004. City Theater is owned and operated by Olympia Entertainment.
Since Matilda Dodge Wilson opened Music Hall's doors in 1928, our intimate downtown venue has been a significant player in Detroit's performing arts sector. The Gem Theatre in Detroit houses a two level theatre with traditional row and aisle seating and intimate stage-level seating at cabaret tables. It shares a lobby with the cabaret style Century Theatre . The theatre has stylings of Spanish Revival architecture. The structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.HistoryIn 1902, the Twentieth Century Club, a group of cultural, socially prominent women, built a Mission-style building to house their club. The building, now the Century Theatre, is built of red brick trimmed with white sandstone. The first floor originally housed a dining room, while the second floor housed a 400-seat auditorium.In 1928, the member of the Century club contracted George D. Mason to design a theater addition to the Century Club building. The resulting Spanish Revival-style building was leased to the Little Theatre chain, which showed foreign films, and the building was known as the Little Theatre.In 1933, due to the Depression, the Twentieth Century Club disbanded. The Little Theatre, however, continued, suffering through several name changes, becoming The Rivoli in 1932, Drury Lane (and then the Europa in 1935, the Cinema in 1936, and the Vanguard Playhouse in 1960. The Vanguard offered live theater rather than movies.Finally, in 1967, the theatre was named the Gem. The building was used as an adult movie house until it closed in 1978. Soon afterward, developer Charles Forbes purchased the combined Gem/Century building, and began a complete restoration of the Gem Theatre in 1990. The refurbished Gem opened in 1991.
When the 20 year old Arts League of Michigan (ALM) moved into its new home in July of 2009, it was a victory after a 4-year effort. The ALM no longer had to hold arts activities in scattered Metro Detroit venues-it had its own. The new home is a 19th century building formerly known as the Harmonie Club, in what is now, Paradise Valley. It was re-named the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center. The public was welcomed to a fall gala. By that time, the ALM programs were up and running. At the heart of ALM are the arts classes for youngsters ages 7 to 18 in creative writing, dance, theater, photography and especially jazz and visual arts. They have been identifiers of the ALM community-focused arts mission since 1991. That recently expanded with the addition of arts classes for adults. To date, add a succession of art exhibitions, celebrity concerts and master classes, art fairs, artists who use free space in which to create, literary and musical entertainment in Beatrice Buck Park, the new gift shop, plus rentals by the public for private affairs ranging from baby showers to fashion shows to corporate parties, seminars/workshops, weddings and more, and you have the active, stimulating, community-friendly center of arts and culture that the Carr Center is today.

The New Motown Revue is a monthly concert series created by Live Nation Detroit, partnered with The Refinement Group to pay homage to the legacy of the Motown era and it's "Motortown Revue" that was established in the 1960's. The 201 6 Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront concert series will make the spectacular GM Riverfront Plaza THE Friday night destination for food, fun, and FREE concerts.
