Sabakon™ is an annual 3-day pop culture convention dedicated to promoting the cultural and educational aspects of animation, gaming and innovation held on Labor Day weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It is operated by Sabakon LLC and hundreds of other staffers and volunteers from Hansha Studios℠, an arts and crafts company; City of Virtue, a community oriented consulting and management company; and many other Las Vegas groups. Sabakon™ provides a unique and artistic medium for entertainment and creativity. It is a mecca for individual and collective expression, where attendees come to showcase their arts, costumes, game skills, inventions and more. While currently hosted at the Alexis Park Resort, in the past Sabakon™ has been held at other Las Vegas resort venues such as Texas Station in 2013 and Circus Circus in 2012 and 2011. The convention was founded in 2011 by Hansha Studios, originally named as Anime Day, a small fan based gathering of approximately 100 people for 1 day of family friendly fun activities. Today, Sabakon™ has grown to become one of the largest animation based convention in Nevada with thousands of attendees as of 2014, and a large exhibit hall featuring vendors and artists from all over the country.
The Secular Student Alliance at UNLV is a student organization with the goal of creating a safe, welcoming space for atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, individuals questioning their religious beliefs, and those religious people sympathetic to the separation of church and state. We have weekly discussion meetings during the fall and spring semesters on Tuesday nights at 7pm in room 205 of the UNLV Student Union. We also do community service events and organize speakers to give informative and/or entertaining presentations to the public. We are open to all members of the UNLV community that are also interested in building a sense of community among secular students.
The inspiration in creating Singles In The City was to give single professionals in Las Vegas access to meet other like-minded singles at exciting events. Understanding the importance of a personal connection, Singles In The City hosts events where singles can come together to meet face-to-face and as an added bonus, also do some business networking. Events are held at least twice a month and access to these events is exclusive to Singles In The City (SITC) members. All SITC members are professionals between the ages of 24-49 years old. The Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute is an international literary center dedicated to promoting discourse on today‘s most pressing issues. UNLV President Emerita Carol C. Harter leads the institute, which provides an environment where creative writers and scholars can fight against entrenched perspectives, whatever their political or cultural source. BMI works to exert national, and ultimately global, influence by supporting a host of mutually reinforcing literary endeavors. These activities include readings, lectures, and panel discussions by public intellectuals whose work embodies BMI‘s mission; nationally ranked graduate programs in creative writing for writers of exceptional promise; a residential fellowship program that supports the creation of internationally focused writing for an educated lay audience; UNLV faculty fellowships for scholars pursuing humanistic research; a residential safe haven for writers of conscience from countries in which such freedoms are curtailed or endangered; the publication of two award-winning literary journals; and the translation into English of major literary works from traditionally under-translated languages. BMI also actively seeks partnerships and co-sponsorship opportunities with other centers and programs at UNLV and in the community at large, thereby multiplying the number of resources available to and audiences touched by its activities. Each newborn referred for assistance can receive a Baby Bundle which includes a diaper bag filled with new and gently used baby clothing, receiving blankets, bottles, toiletries, a toy and a handmade blanket. Gear includes a portable crib, car seat, front carrier and bathtub with hygiene items as needed for the child's health, safety and well-being. Through collaboration with social service agencies, hospitals, homeless shelters, safe havens, schools and family court, new mothers at risk are identified. Those agencies providing case management request the essential items, pick up at our facility and distribute to their clients. Participating agencies include HELP of Southern Nevada, Dept. of Welfare and Supportive Services, WIC, Dept. of Family Services, CCSD, SNHD, Sunrise Children's Foundation and many others. **Caseworkers: this is a one time service for your clients. Our capacity is 60 newborns a month. We appreciate donations of gently used baby items. Volunteers collect, sort and clean the items and prepare them for distribution.

The Desert Wanderers Outdoor Cluster is a JewEL supported, interest-based program group that provides an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts in the community to experience the excellent trails, parks, and terrain available in the region and connect our experiences with Judaism.
Inspired by a belief that improving our public education in Southern Nevada was too big a task for a school district to undertake alone, The Public Education Foundation was established in 1991 as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit Nevada corporation. Our solutions to the challenges of educating a growing and diverse Southern Nevada population are impacting schools and the school district at multiple levels from grassroots classroom participation to systemic reform. Our initiatives and programs empower teachers and students, reduce bureaucracy, ensure accountability, leverage resources, and deliver results. We are working collaboratively with educators to ensure that our students not only succeed in the classroom but succeed in life. Why? Because young minds matter...to us...to you...and to our future.
Jewish Emerging Leaders (JewEL) is a volunteer led/staff supported program of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas that provides an opportunity for young Jewish professionals (20’s & 30’s) to take an active role in shaping their community through philanthropic, leadership, community service and social activities. There are a number of ways to get more involved that range from serving on a committee and helping to plan a JewEL program to manning a phone at our next phone-a-thon or participating in our monthly community service projects. Please don’t hesitate to get more involved, we can find a way for you to make a difference in the community!
Expectant parents that sign up for Shalom Baby will receive a special diaper bag filled with a Kiddush cup, candlesticks, Tzedakah box and a Shabbat board book. In addition, each bag contains a Jewish community resource guide including information about local congregations, the Jewish Federation, PJ Library and other groups. Each baby bag will be hand delivered to families’ after their baby arrives by a volunteer from our Shalom Baby committee. This way, the committee member has a chance to personally wish the family a mazel tov and let them know that if they need anything, the Jewish Federation and Jewish community are here for them.
