In 2011, Brad Paul, owner of Central City and Ardmore Toyota dealerships, partnered with The Enterprise Center Community Development Corporation (TEC-CDC), to build a community pocket park in the west Philadelphia neighborhood of Walnut Hill. TEC-CDC has been beautifying this once vacant parcel of land, located at 46th and Market St., by turning it into a production farm and community garden, accessible to the residents of Walnut Hill. While the farm and community garden were under way, Brad Paul stepped in wanting to help complete this project by building a pocket park and ultimately dedicating this park to his father, Max Paul. The Pauls have a long history of commitment and service to west Philadelphia. Max Paul opened Central City Toyota in 1969. Since then, Max has been a generous and active supporter of community-based initiatives in the area. This park is meant to capture the importance of creating safe, beautiful and dynamic spaces for community residents to enjoy. TEC-CDC supports community-based economic development through the creation of a farm-to-fork food system in west Philadelphia. In 2012, TEC-CDC opened the Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises (CCE), which incubates local food businesses and entrepreneurs. TEC-CDC’s production farm provides fresh, local produce to entrepreneurs utilizing the CCE. On the back end, TEC-CDC purchases these value-added products for sale through their weekly farm stand and the West Philly Foods Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. The West Philly Foods CSA currently has 110 members and provides a portion of these weekly shares at a subsidized rate to residents living in Walnut Hill. This unique program provides residents with fresh produce from May through October each year. In 2013, West Philly Foods expects to distribute over 20,000 pounds of local produce into our communities. By cycling fresh produce and locally made products through this system, TEC-CDC keeps food dollars in our community and supports local businesses, from farmers to food entrepreneurs.

Doors at 7:30 show at 8pm Free! Donations Appreciated Free refreshments Bring your music, poems, short stories, announcements, and rants to share at the open mic. This event is drug and alcohol free. Kids always welcome, but some performance content is mature. Bring information to share about your work and the work of your organization MOSAIC is Movement of Oppressed Sectors Working in Concert A Call to Action by Maroon Shoatz At present, there are sectarian divisions due to racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, cultural and geographical differences that hinder individuals, organizations and entire communities who already interact, cooperate to various degrees share many of the same concerns, and are faced with similar obstacles to their well-being. But we can all come together like a MOSAIC and move toward creating positive changes in our collective well-being. The MOSAIC will not be an effort directed toward imposing any type of multi-racial, multi-ethnic, gender neutral or conformist utopian universalism. No! The MOSAIC will allow individuals, organizations, entire communities, and whole peoples to exercise Self Determination in deciding what types of social orders they choose to struggle to bring into being, while at the same time learning how to better come together with others to form societies that will be superior to the ones in which we now live. Thus, the word mosaic fits us in many ways. We will add to the dictionary definition by defining ourselves as The MOSAIC: The Movement of Oppressed Sectors Acting in Concert. The MOSAIC-- An ideological jumping off point that will serve all of our separate and collective interests; it can be termed Inter-Communal Self Determination. Inter: Existing between Communal: 1. of or relating to a community, 2. Characterized by collective ownership and use of property 3. Participation in, shared, or used in common by members of a group or community Self Determination: 1. Free choice of one’s acts or states without external compulsion; 2. Determination by the people of a territorial unit of their own future political status Our MOSAIC would consist of elements from amongst individuals, groups and communities- some of whom are already benefiting from interacting and working together- with room for expansion. They include, but are not limited to: •Women—individuals and groups •New Afrikan and Pan Afrikan peoples •Puerto Ricans •Anarchists and Anti- Authoritarians •Asians •Chicano Mexicano Indigenous •Native Americans •Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Genderqueer and Transgender •Euro-Americans •Ecological Activists •Animal Rights Activists •Working Class Peoples •People with dis/abilities Our political posture would include- but not be limited by the following: •Pro- Self Determination for everyone •Anti-Economic, political and cultural domination •Pro- Gender and sexual choice freedom and inclusivity •Anti-Racism, gender, cast and class oppression •Pro- Full Human Rights for everyone •Anti-Capitalism •Pro-Sustainable economics •Anti- Entropic environmental, species and technological practices •Pro- Species and environmental projections The MOSAIC will be built on the principals of seeking to recruit both from amongst the most oppressed segments, and from amongst the most selfless. The former found primarily within the ranks of the lower class females, people of color and the GLBTQ peoples, while the selfless are found, to a lesser degree, amongst all segments. The MOSAIC must immediately begin to spread its messages by recruiting people who are willing to help by producing publications of all sorts, as well as utilizing any and all other means that do not transgress its principles, to aggressively push it’s messages under the MOSAIC title. All MOSAIC people can contribute to this effort autonomously, while always keeping in mind our collective stance, as well as the sensibilities of other MOSAIC and oppressed peoples. Finally, The MOSAIC must immediately begin a dialogue directed toward building a consensus- as near as possible- about how to best further coordinate our collective efforts.
