The St. Joseph Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio, located at 623 East Commerce Street in downtown San Antonio, Texas, United States. The Gothic Revival house of worship was the fourth Catholic parish in the city. The church is an example of what the Chinese describe as a nail house; when the church refused to sell to a property developer a large shopping mall was constructed around it.Parish historyThe church occupies the probable second site of the Missión San Antonio de Valero, before it was moved in 1724 to its present location. The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1868, and it was finally completed in 1871. It served a large and growing community of German immigrants. In the 1870s, Friar Henry Pfefferkorn, founder of the Liederkranz, painted the Annunciation and Assumption murals on the side altars. A steeple was added in 1898. Stained glass windows, imported from the Emil Frei Art Glass Factory in Munich, Germany, were installed in 1902.In 1944, Joske's department store offered to buy the church grounds in order to develop it commercially. Parishioners unanimously refused the offer to move from the site and so instead Joske's built around the three sides of the church, earning the church from locals the moniker "St. Joske's". A restoration was commenced in 1981. Today, the parish serves as home to a multicultural community and as a popular attraction for tourists. Spanish-language masses are held with mariachi music and the San Antonio Liederkranz sings once a month.

Presidio San Antonio de Béxar was a Spanish fort built near the San Antonio River, located in what is now San Antonio, Texas, USA. It was designed for protection of the mission system and civil settlement in central Texas. It also served to secure Spain's claim to the region from French, English and American aggression. It was built by Franciscan priest Antonio de Olivares and the Payaya; and along with the Misión de San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo) and the Acequia Madre de Valero, is the origin of the present city of San Antonio, Texas.EstablishmentFrom the Convent of Querétaro, several expeditions were organized to the region of Texas, an area of great strategic importance to the Spanish crown. With that goal in 1675, an expedition formed by Fray Antonio de Olivares, Fray Francisco Hidalgo, Fray Juan Larios, and Fernando del Bosque was sent to explore and describe the country beyond the borders of Rio Grande, to test the possibilities of new settlements in the area.
As a luxury apartment community for the last eight years, Saint Benedict’s has been enthusiastically embraced by native San Antonians & transplants alike. The rich history of this property dates back to the turn of the twentieth century. In the 1950’s the St. Benedictine sisters established a nursing home and hospital on the property, which was in operation in one form or another until the mid-1980’s. From the early 1990’s to 2004, the property sat vacant and in disrepair until it was purchased by an investment group that included the present owners. Notable architect Davis Sprinkle began transformation of the property’s mid-century structures into 66 high-end, design-minded living spaces in 2006. No detail was spared during the design & planning process. According to Sprinkle, “The goal was to create a modern oasis in the heart of the historic King William neighborhood. The minimalist design aesthetic is expressed in the layout of the residential units with their large picture windows, open floor plans, and crisp white interiors. The variety of communal courtyard spaces lends a contemplative vibe by offering gathering areas that afford privacy while still connecting back to the neighborhood.”

We Believe In: THE PRIMACY OF GRACE Grace, simply defined, is God's gift-giving nature – the powerful, undeserved, loving activity of God in human existence. THE CENTRALITY OF JESUS God's initiative of love is uniquely and ultimately expressed in Jesus Christ. Jesus is literally “grace personified”. THE NECESSITY OF CONVERSION If Jesus is God's ultimate gift of grace, then conversion is consciously saying “yes” to the Gift and “thanks” to the Giver. THE GOAL OF MATURITY The goal of the Christian life is to look to Jesus for guidance and look like Jesus in lifestyle. THE PRIORITY OF MINISTRY Ministry is meeting the needs of people with the power of Christ. THE GUIDANCE OF SCRIPTURE United Methodist Christians hold the Bible as God's inspired and essential witness to God's redeeming work toward God's creation. THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH The Bible describes the church as “the body of Christ;” that is, the visible and communal expression of Jesus in the world. CONCERN FOR SOCIETY Jesus is God's indispensable gift not only to individuals, but to all levels and expressions of human community. Marriages, families, neighborhoods, corporations, cities, states, governments and nations, and the whole earth need Jesus as much as any individual does. TOLERANCE FOR DIVERSITY The God of scripture is far larger than any one person or personal viewpoint. As long as our different beliefs are rooted in the essentials of the Christian faith and are consistent with the Scriptures, then these differences will enhance our understanding of God and challenge us to grow in Christ.

Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ (Matthew 25:39, 40 NKJV)
