The primary function of the Senior Services Department is to provide assistance, services, referrals, and information to our elderly population and their families, as well as planning, administering, organizing, and supervising all programs and services within the Center. Some of our programs and services include: coordinating recreational, cultural, social, health, and nutritional related activities within the Senior Center.
The primary function of the Social Services Office is to provide immediate assistance and crisis intervention for Montville residents. Our Department partners with other agencies to provide heating assistance, power services, and food assistance making access and support easier for these services for all of our residents. We provide numerous other services through this office (i.e. state app. assistance, resource and referrals) but most notable and used regularly are our food pantry, hygiene bank, and clothing bank. All are extremely beneficial and utilized frequently. The office is extremely busy and all programs within the office have proven successful. This office provided assistance for 6,304 residents or/families, totaling 16,763 individuals. With the unemployment rate continuing to be an issue for so many and the high cost of living, the increase in requests for services this year has been substantial. We are proud that we have been able to make a significant difference in the lives of our needy and indigent residents.
The Major Crime Unit is responsible for controlling or assist with complex crime scene management, provide evidence-processing skills, or conduct extensive follow-up investigations. The detectives at Troop-E investigate crimes involving high misdemeanors to serious felonies through 13 towns in the region. Homicides, assaults likely to result in death, bank robberies, kidnapping in the first degree, suspected arson, serious death in which a criminal act is a possibility, and any other serious felonies that require extensive or complicated investigative efforts are taken under the arms of the Criminal Investigation unit.
