The Theater of Public Policy uses live improvisational theater to bring public policy issues and debates to life. Each show features a leading thinker on a particular issue. We'll interview each guest to find out their approach and solutions to a particular issue. All of the ideas and challenges brought up in this conversation serve as the inspiration for the improvised scenes to follow. The improvisers tasks are not be to make light of the issues or mock the players involved. Instead, scenes make the previous conversation come to life with living, breathing characters in the situations described. The scenes also explore what the implications of the problem and/or proposed solution might be.

Every dollar raised is given to a student in rural Tanzania in the form of a scholarship, who can't otherwise afford the fees for continuing education. When every $600 is raised, a scholarship is covered for a student of Ketumbeine Secondary School for one year. Our goal is to provide full, 3-year commitment scholarships for as many students as possible. -Ketumbeine Secondary School- Ketumbeine is a village in Northern Tanzania. This is only one of thousands of villages where resources are lacking. By providing the opportunity for further education, we can help students reach their full potential. TigerLion Arts (TLA), founded by Markell Kiefer and Tyson Forbes, is a Minneapolis-based production company whose vision is to celebrate human wisdom and the spirit of nature through creative works that awaken, inform, and delight. For more than ten years, TLA has touched the lives of tens of thousands nationwide with five original productions: The Buddha Prince, a play about the life and culture of the 14th Dalai Lama, performed in New York City's Central Park and endorsed with high acclaim by the Office of Tibet; Buddha Prince Backstage, a PBS documentary featuring the inspired creation process with the Minnesota Tibetan community, along with the unique ‘walking play’ style for which TLA is renowned. Nature, the outdoor telling of Emerson and Thoreau's mutual love affair with the natural world, created by Emerson’s descendent Tyson Forbes; KIPO!, a circus of spirit, song, and dance from Tibet, an official event of the Dalai Lama’s 2011 Minnesota Visit; and The Dragons Are Singing Tonight, a musical adaptation of Children's Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky’s book of dragon poems, which performed its flying dragon finale at the 2012 Ivey Awards. Funded by the Minnesota State Arts Board, Dragons also offered an extensive music and puppetry residency program to the Minneapolis and Robbinsdale Public Schools. TLA serves communities of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring good human values and a love of nature through the arts and social empowerment. Justice first requires access. Call for Justice, LLC ("C4J") is committed to our mission: To improve access to justice by connecting low-income people to existing legal resources, in partnership with United Way 211 and others. One important goal of C4J is to make legal referrals more effective and efficient for low and moderate-income people in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. We do this first by working with United Way 211 and by keeping referral-related information up-to-date between legal and social service providers. We also run the C4J Legal Liaison Program, which works to increase knowledge about resources and needs in the nonprofit legal and social service communities. Our outreach efforts include speaking to community groups, presenting on legal resources in Greater MN, a regular newsletter, and use of social media.

Our artistic work unfolds through a unique contemporary Indian dance vocabulary, danced by women of color, and rooted in social justice issues that are both local and global. Our work is inspired by the extraordinary dreams of ordinary women, inspiring our audiences through emotional and visual engagement. We link women's stories to movement and offer training in contemporary Indian dance and social justice movement vocabulary. We premier one new work annually; in addition, we offer touring performances, workshops, and dialogues throughout the year.
ServeMinnesota is the state's designated recipient of funding for the AmeriCorps program, often referred to as "the domestic Peace Corps". We administer a portfolio of 12 AmeriCorps programs with more than 1,200 AmeriCorps members addressing a variety of critical human needs spanning educational achievement, economic opportunity and environmental protection. More than 650 sites across the state are hosting an AmeriCorps member this year. These sites include schools, local nonprofits and community organizations. ServeMinnesota's primary strategic goal is to invest its AmeriCorps resources in a manner that achieves the greatest impact on solving critical issues for the state — thereby serving as a catalyst for positive social change in Minnesota. We align the power of AmeriCorps with successful approaches that provide cost-effective solutions and yield measurable results. By applying evidence-based practices, bringing scale to what works and demonstrating positive outcomes, we have a formula for increased impact. Our education initiatives combine the power of AmeriCorps with proven learning methods to help thousands of children achieve grade level proficiency in reading and math — two critical indicators for future success. Without AmeriCorps resources, thousands of children would not receive the critical interventions they need to succeed in school and life.
