The Ellie Caulkins Opera House, which opened on September 10, 2005, is located in Denver, Colorado as part of the large Denver Performing Arts Complex. It seats 2,225. The Caulkins family pledged $7 million towards the enhancement of the lyric opera house and adjacent public spaces which were constructed inside of the Newton Auditorium.History of the theatreThe Municipal Auditorium, the largest in America except for Madison Square Garden in New York, was completed in time to host the Democratic National Convention in 1908. Mayor Speer and the Chamber of Commerce raised $100,000 to celebrate the July 7 grand opening of the Auditorium with Denver's first national political convention, when William Jennings Bryan was nominated to run for President for the third time.Originally, the building was a multi-purpose structure: it accommodated concerts, operas, theatrical shows, conventions, basketball, auto shows and even circuses, with flags flying from its domes and light bulbs outlining its pediments, cornice, and corners. The proscenium of the original building was designed to be portable so as to create different-sized spaces for different events. When the proscenium was in place, the building was a 3,326 seat theatre with an extraordinarily large back stage area. When the proscenium was raised, increasing the seating capacity to 12,000, the stage and backstage area became large enough to hold circuses and rodeos. For several years in the 1920s and 30s, Music Week was an annual event in Denver. Various communities of the state presented musical programs and most of the performances were in the Auditorium. An opera or operetta was commonly included in the offerings. In 1921, a company of Denver musicians performed Flotow's Martha in May; of special historical significance was the fact that the two performances were broadcast by radio station 9ZAF, the first time ever that a full-length opera was broadcast.

DADA Art Bar is committed to the advancement of artistic expression within the Denver community as a vital cultural force. It is our goal to support and develop the capacity of local, national, and international artists to reach Denver’s public with a platform for exposure as well as commerce. DADA Art Bar will be a space for the Denver community to experience and engage with the performing, literary, media, and visual arts. Our RiNo location will continuously house arts projects, including concerts, performances, public art, exhibitions, screenings, festivals, workshops, readings and more. The first Friday of each month will mark a new show and an exciting opportunity for artists to share and possibly profit from their work - regardless of professional artistic experience. DADA’s approach to gallerism will be completely democratic. It will serve culture and history at large, as opposed to the exclusivity of the traditional gallery market. So that there is a more equitable and diverse range of artists and artworks represented, we will showcase a full spectrum of backgrounds and identities. All are welcome to become involved - whether by presenting, performing, experiencing, or purchasing works. DADA Art Bar is not only a place to participate in artistic inquiry and creation, but also a place to interact with artists and art enthusiasts, partake in dialogue and discussion about the arts, and enjoy a drink in the beautiful gallery space.

Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom is located in the old Casino Caberet building which is on 2637 Welton Street, the “Main Street” of Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood in Northeast downtown Denver. Five Points derives it’s name from the fact that the community encompasses the intersection of Welton Street, Washington Street, and 26th and 27th Avenues. The Casino was first opened by a black, World War I army veteran named Benny Hooper. Hooper was able to open an Ex-Serviceman’s Club, with the help of Denver Mayor Benjamin Franklin Stapleton, right next store to the present Cervantes’. The Club offered respite to black veterans who were denied access to Denver’s downtown hotels. In exchange for Stapleton’s support, Hooper attracted many black voters, who previously had a sole allegiance to the Republican Party, to vote Democratic. The Ex-Servicemen’s Club evolved in Benny Hooper’s Club and became a hot spot for jazz, barbecue, craps, and dancing. During the 1930s, Hooper acquired the space next door, currently Cervantes’, and called it the Casino Dance Hall. The Casino evolved into a two-story hall with balcony seating for 1,000, a 40-foot long bar, and a huge hardwood dance floor. The Rossonian Hotel also had a jazz club across the street called the Voters Club, although the Casino was known as the largest and most luxurious of all the jazz clubs in the Points. The Casino Dance Hall was also known as the Deluxe Recreation Parlor and Ex-Servicemen’s Club, and the Casino Ballroom until Hooper’s death in 1984. The Casino had many musical legends grace the stage over the years such as: Brook Benton, James Brown, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, George Morrison, Muddy Waters, Flip Wilson, B.B. King, Millie Jackson, and Esther Phillips. We are continuing the Casino’s tradition of great music at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom.
