The Kellwood Corporation, owned by Robert Bertrum Kelly (the architect on record) and H.C. Woods, constructed the theater in 1926 with the financial backing of Commerce Reality at a cost of $1.75 million.The Aztec Theatre was part of the Theater district that included the Empire (1914), the Texas (1926), the Majestic (1929), and the Alameda (1949).Though the theater remained highly popular for many decades, by the 1970s, it was in decline. It was cut into three auditoriums as the Aztec Triplex, but this only slowed the eventual. In 1989, the Aztec closed. Since October 1992, the theatre is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, which helped save it from demolition. Based on San Antonio’s Riverwalk, the second most popular tourist attraction in Texas, the new Aztec Theatre re-opened in August 2009 as a concert venue.San Antonio Rose Live was a two-hour live show featuring traditional country, western swing, and gospel music. The Majestic Theatre is San Antonio's oldest and largest atmospheric theatre. The theatre seats 2,311 people and was designed by architect John Eberson, for Karl Hoblitzelle's Interstate Theatres in 1929.In 1975, the theatre was listed on the National Register of Historical Places and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1993. The theatre was home to the San Antonio Symphony from 1989 to 2014. For many years, it remained the largest theatre in Texas and the second largest movie theatre in the United States. It was also the first theatre in the state to be totally air-conditioned.
When the Germans came to Texas in the mid-1800s, their main imports were hard work, fun, music, good cooking and beer. Papa Fritz Schilo was no exception. Schilo’s saloon was started in Beeville, Texas in the early 1900’s and in 1914, he moved his family and business to San Antonio on Commerce Street. Prohibition came in 1917 and the saloon closed. That same year, Schilo’s Delicatessen opened at the corner of South Alamo and Worth Streets, with fare much the same as it is today. Mrs. Schilo spent weekends preparing food and special treat from her own recipes. In 1927 Schilo’s moved again to Commerce Street – next door to its present location. Christmas – German style was the best time of the year and Schilo’s shared it with all through their window decorations. With typical German strength, Schilo’s survived the Depression – substantial how lunches became the specialty enhanced by Mama Schilo’s Split Pea Soup. After Papa Fritz passed away in 1935, the business was taken over by his son, Edgar. In 1942, Schilo’s moved to its present location and was operated by the third generation of Schilo. Although the Schilo family is no longer connected with Schilo’s, it is still German Family - owned and operated, with the traditions and good food continuing. Between 1917 and now, a lot has changed – Times – Faces – Places, but always there is Schilo’s….where good times and good food are famous.

Casa Rio was the first San Antonio business to open its doors to the River and take advantage of the River's setting. Canoes, gondolas, and paddle boats, evolving into tour and dinner boats, began here and helped create the Riverwalk of today.

We also provide an extensive beverage selection, complete with our trademark Specialty Drinks! In the mid 1940's, Pat O'Brien's Bar propelled when the Hurricane Drink was created. At that time, there was short supply of liquor such as whiskey, bourbon and scotch. There was, however, access to rum coming up the river. Bar owners were forced to buy large quantities of rum, 50 cases or so, in order to purchase other liquor. Through trial and error, they came up with a drink that everyone loved! Pat O'Brien paired it up with a glass shaped like a Hurricane lamp and the drink was perfected! Under the management of George Oechsner Jr., Pat O'Brien's quickly became the most popular bar in New Orleans. The new concept of dueling piano players in the Piano Lounge had everyone dancing in the aisles. The Main Bar was a mainstay for neighborhood friends, and the Patio a perfect place to socialize. Even though the corporation has branched out, the main reason for its success is the fervor New Orleanians have for the place.
