Carroll Avenue is a street situated in Los Angeles, near Echo Park. It is in Angelino Heights, one of the older neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It consists of Victorian-era houses within a picturesque neighborhood, which has served as the backdrop for countless motion pictures from the earliest days of cinema to the present.HistoryCarroll Avenue is one of Los Angeles' first suburbs, and bears its name well, as it brings the city many tourists and visitors. The houses, or rather Victorian manors, are now used as private homes, as they were in the 19th century. Some of the more well known residents from the Victorian era include: merchant Aaron P. Philips in 1887, real estate agent Charles C. Haskin in 1894, and warehouse operator Michael Sanders in 1887. One of Los Angeles' first City Councilmen, Daniel Innes, resided at 1329 Carroll Avenue.The house at 1345 Carroll Avenue was used in the final scene of Michael Jackson's Thriller.The house at 1329 Carroll Avenue was used as the home for the main characters in the supernatural drama television series Charmed.The house at 1324 Carroll Avenue was usse for the main home in Adam Sandler's 2006 comedy Grandma's Boy.Historic designationsThe entire 1300 block of Carroll Avenue was listed under the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Women's Village ========== In response to ever increasing need, Good Shepherd Center developed the Women's Village, a community of women at various stages in their journeys out of homelessness. Women's Village includes: * Hawkes Transitional Residence * Angel Guardian Home * Sr. Julia Mary Farley Women's Village The Village Kitchen ============ A retail kitchen providing job training for our women and savory soups, sandwiches, salads, and baked goods for guests. Languille Drop-In Center =============== The Drop-In Center offers basic services and provides nearly 400 women annually with a respite from life on the streets. Services include: * Food, clothing, laundry and showers * Crisis services and case management * Referrals to other social service providers Languille Emergency Shelter ================= Languille Emergency Shelter provides a temporary home for up to 30 women who are taking the first courageous steps toward stable and productive lives. Women receive: * Shelter in private and semi-private rooms * Clothing, three meals and two snacks a day * Placement into transitional or permanent housing * Assistance with obtaining government benefits Mobile Outreach ========== Serving women who are most desperate, the Mobile Outreach Team visits homeless encampments in order to: * Distribute hot coffee, clothing, food, toiletries, blankets and other basic necessities * Provide referrals to Good Shepherd Center or other social service providers
Project Fatherhood helps fathers to be better parents through: - Individual and family counseling - Group support - Significant others group - Therapeutic activities for children - Preventing child abuse and neglect - Helping fathers to make healthier decisions in relationships At the heart of the program is the Men in Relationships Group (MIRG), which provides comprehensive support at no cost for culturally diverse biological fathers. Over the years the group as proved useful for other men in caregiving roles such as stepfathers, foster parents and relative caregivers such as uncles and grandfathers. Thanks to the vision of Dr. Hershel Swinger, dedicated work of the CII staff and years of federal funding, Project Fatherhood SM to expand across Los Angeles County in a significant way. Over the course of a decade, more than 9,000 fathers and 12,000 children across Los Angeles County have participated in the program. Today, Project Fatherhood continues to exemplify Children’s Institute’s commitment to developing leading-edge programs that deliver lasting impact to the children and families the organization serves. *The Project Fatherhood Pathways to Responsible Fatherhood Grant is part of the Responsible Fatherhood Initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Family Assistance.
