With 1,300 employed physicians and 29,500 employees in four states, SSM is one of the largest employers in every community it serves. It is located in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Illinois and Missouri. In every region, SSM facilities forge creative relationships in the community to foster healthier people and healthier neighborhoods. An early adopter of the electronic health record, SSM provides care in a range of convenient settings, including hospitals, a pediatric medical center, outpatient centers, rural and inner city clinics, surgery centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, physician offices, an emergency center, rehabilitation facilities, home care, and hospice. SSM was the first health care organization to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest award for quality. SSM Health Care owns 18 hospitals, has affiliations with more than 40 rural hospitals, owns two nursing homes, and has a variety of partnerships with physicians. In September 2013, Dean Health System, a large multi-specialty physician group and health plan, finalized a deal to merge Dean and its subsidiaries, including Dean Health Plan, into SSM Health Care. The merger became effective on September 1 after all necessary regulatory approvals were received. Each year, Federation launches a Community Campaign that is the St. Louis Jewish community's largest fundraising effort. Campaign donations are distributed to 30 local and 21 national agencies, programs and services; three international agencies and four targeted programs – to feed the hungry, educate students of all ages, care for the young and old, fight anti-Semitism, promote Jewish culture and support Jews in Israel and around the world. Jewish Federation of St. Louis is part of a network of 157 North American Jewish Federations, known as the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA and formerly United Jewish Communities (UJC). As the community’s central agency, Federation has the capacity to unify the community – to bring together congregations, agencies, day schools and other Jewish groups. To strengthen St. Louis’ connections to Israel, Federation directly links St. Louis to Israel through a Partnership2Gether sister-city program. St. Louis’ sister-city region is Yokneam-Megiddo, Israel, an area southeast of Haifa. Federation is led by hundreds of volunteers from all sectors of the community, who serve on boards and committees, raise funds, manage endowments, respond to emergencies, evaluate needs and distribute charitable dollars to Federation’s family of agencies, programs and services. In 2008, Federation implemented a new governance model, downsizing the Board of Directors and establishing a more broadly representative Board of Trustees.

St. Louis, MO 63132

Our Vision: All children who participate in the Ready Readers program enter kindergarten with the skills to be ready to read, as defined by state early learning standards. Ready Readers began in September of 1997 when Pat Simons, Founder and retired Executive Director, and three other St. Louisans organized to help prevent, rather than remediate, reading problems among children living in poverty. Pat designed a program to excite preschool children about the world of books, so that they would want to read when they were ready. In 1999, an independent Missouri nonprofit corporation named Ready Readers was formed and a Board of Directors was established.. Ready Readers received tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status in June of 1999. Ready Readers is premised upon the well-studied fact that children who are unmotivated to become readers rarely learn how to read well. Wanting to learn, however, depends upon regular exposure to reading aloud and access to children’s books at home. Children living in poverty are insufficiently exposed to regular read-aloud sessions, and they lack sufficient access to books. Nearly two-thirds of low-income American children have no books at home. (Source: Reading Literacy in the United States, 1996; Magnitude, Facts on Illiteracy, www.firstbook.com) To begin closing the achievement gap between low-income children and those who are more fortunate, we must make sure that underserved children have access to more books at home. Early intervention such as ours – which supplies weekly read aloud sessions and gives each child a regular supply of picture books – works to motivate pre-kindergarten children to want to learn to read. The Examination Process: Board certification is based on the highest standards of orthodontic knowledge and clinical skill. To become board-certified, orthodontists must complete a thorough written examination in all areas of the orthodontic specialty. During a comprehensive clinical examination, orthodontists present several finished patient cases for review by the expert examiners of the American Board of Orthodontics and complete an oral examination that evaluates diagnosis, treatment-planning, and finished treatment ability. A board-certified orthodontist is showing a lifelong commitment to continuing education. On a periodic basis, recertification examinations are completed in order to maintain active board certification status.

Orthodontists not only complete dental school, but also an additional two to three years of an ADA-accredited graduate orthodontic program. While completing a specialty program in orthodontics, residents learn how best to align and move teeth into beautiful, healthy smiles. Only those professionals who complete this educational pathway may call themselves orthodontists. Only orthodontists who complete an ADA-accredited orthodontic program may continue on to become board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
