The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest continuously operating auto racing facility in the world, having hosted auto racing events since 1903. The Milwaukee Mile features long and nearly flat corners, and is considered the perfect oval configuration for IndyCars, resulting in close, hard racing that rewards the most talented teams and drivers. The Milwaukee Mile is a -long oval race track located on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisconsin with grandstand and bleacher seating for approximately 45,000 spectators. It operated as a dirt track until 1953. The track was paved in 1954. In addition to the asphalt-paved oval, there is a asphalt-paved road circuit located on the infield. The biggest names in auto racing history have performed and excelled at the Milwaukee Mile. In the first two decades of the 20th century, Barney Oldfield, considered America’s first major driving star, won multiple race events at the track. Through two World Wars, the track survived and thrived with Indy cars leading the way. In the past 50 years, multiple generations of drivers with legendary names such as Andretti and Unser have visited victory lane at the oval. The winning drivers at the Milwaukee Mile include the greatest and most successful drivers of each era, including prominent names recognized around the world such as A.J. Foyt, Rex Mays, Nigel Mansell, Juan Montoya and Dario Franchitti. The Indy Stars return June 15-16th for IndyFest at the fabled oval to decide what name will be the next to be etched into the Milwaukee Mile record books. Make your plans now to be there on Father’s Day weekend to witness more history in the making.
