Basement Waterproofing and/or Yard Drainage Consulting According to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission most basement waterproofing issues are the result of poor surface drainage around the home and should be corrected from the outside. Though an "exterior remedy" is usually our recommendation there are some cases when an “exterior only” remedy is not the best approach. In many of these cases the only realistic and/or cost effective solution would be to solve these problems with inside waterproofing measures or a combination of both inside and outside measures. Unfortunately most companies specialize in either an “inside only” or an “outside only” solution and are thus compelled to steer you towards the type of projects they sell rather than the best approach for your particular problem. Most patio and deck contractors are not well versed in drainage problems and how they should be corrected before their projects are installed. I have ongoing relationships with local Soil Engineers, Basement Waterproofing, Mold Remediation, and Exterior Drainage/Erosion Contractors that specialize in both “inside the home” and “outside the home” waterproofing solutions. The companies I work with all have “A” ratings with the Better Business Bureau. I provide basement waterproofing and exterior yard drainage consultations for a flat fee of $150.00. This gives you up to 2 hours of my time and my written report. Every problem is unique and my report will include recommendations for work either on the exterior of the home and/or the interior of the home depending on your particular problem. My report many times will also include recommendations for things you can do yourself to help solve or lessen your problems. The consultation fee will be applied to any work you decide to have done providing you contract with the company or companies I recommend. I offer a “Satisfaction Guarantee” on my consultation. If you are unhappy with my expertise I will waive the consultation fee. I also have extensive experience with the installation of Basement Egress Windows and Basement Egress Doors in older homes. National and Local building codes require basements to have 2 means of escape (or Egress) in case of an emergency in order to finish off a homes basement. One of those exits must be in the bedroom itself if someone is to sleep in the basement. Installation of these Egress Windows or Egress Doors must comply with National and Local “Egress Codes”. Local permits are required on these projects and they must pass local building inspections. I can advise you as to the proper drainage and special structural considerations that must be observed when cutting into and excavating next to load bearing exterior walls. I can be contacted at (703) 629-9461 to answer your questions or to set up an appointment for a consultation. Thanks, Dave Robey (703) 629-9461
