Chung King Road is a pedestrian street in the northeast corner of Chinatown, Los Angeles. This street is a part of “New Chinatown,” built in the 1930s and 1940s, and has been the location of Chinese specialty shops and art importers. Since the late 1990s many of the storefronts have been converted into art galleries. In a successful blending of cultures, the historic Chung King Road is now one of the centers of art and nightlife in Downtown Los Angeles.
Taste of the Eastside is an annual, one day, outdoor food and drink festival hosted this year at the historic Los Angeles River Center and Gardens. Now in its fourth year, the event attracts over 1000 foodies and hipsters from northeast LA to celebrate and take pride in their neighborhood eateries and culinary establishments. Taste of the Eastside features some 30 restaurants that range from landmark hotspots to noteworthy newcomers. The entire event is a fundraiser that benefits the Rose Scharlin Cooperative Nursery School, as well as other local non-profit organizations like the Pablove Foundation, SEE-LA, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the Hollyhock House.
