Founded in 1870 by Irish immigrant and social reformer Thomas Hunter as a teacher-training school for women, Hunter College has long enjoyed a distinguished reputation for liberal arts and sciences and professional schools. Completely co-educational since 1964, Hunter is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY) and is one of the oldest public colleges in the country, dedicated from its earliest days to serving a student body which reflects the diversity of New York City.

Unaware that the college did not claim to be a Catholic school, the Cardinal Newman Society protested the college's announcement of its decision to invite then-Senator Hillary Clinton to deliver a commencement address and to confer an honorary doctoral degree upon her, due to Senator Clinton's longtime public support for abortion rights. In response to the protests and without objection by the college, it was de-listed from "The Official Catholic Directory," which identifies Catholic institutions.In 1976, Finch College, a women's college best known as a "finishing school" for affluent young women, closed and passed its records over to the school. The school was most famous for educating Tricia Nixon Cox, daughter of former US President Richard Nixon.
Hunter College is an American public university and one of the constituent organizations of the City University of New York, located in the Lenox Hill neighborhood of Manhattan's Upper East Side. The college grants undergraduate and graduate degrees in over one-hundred fields of study in five schools: The School of Arts and Sciences, The School of Education, The School of Social Work, The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, and the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College. Hunter College also administers Hunter College High School and Hunter College Elementary School.Founded in 1870, originally as a women's college, Hunter is one of the oldest public colleges in the United States. The college assumed the location of its main campus on Park Avenue in 1873. Hunter began admitting men into its freshman class in 1964. In 1943 Eleanor Roosevelt dedicated the former home of herself and Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the college, which reopened in 2010 as the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College. In 2012, a partnership was announced with Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center, with plans to develop a shared health sciences campus on East 74th Street.
68th Street–Hunter College is a local station on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line of the New York City Subway, located at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 68th Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It is served by the ' train at all times, the during weekdays in peak direction, and the ' during late night hours.Station layoutThis underground station opened on July 17, 1918, has two local tracks and two side platforms. The express tracks of the Lexington Avenue Line, used by the 4 and '' trains during daytime hours, pass beneath the station and are not visible from the platforms.Both platforms have their original mosaic trim line with "68" tablets on it at regular intervals and name tablets reading "68th STREET-HUNTER COLLEGE" in two lines. On small sections of the platforms on either ends, where they were extended in the 1950s, there are blue trim lines with "68TH ST" written on it in white lettering. Blue columns run along both platforms at regular intervals with alternating ones having the standard black station name plate in white lettering. Both platforms have emergency exits from the lower level express tracks.Toward the south end of the platforms are two stairs leading to the only mezzanine in the station. It has been renovated with stainless steel fare control rails and features red accent stripes in the IND style. Old wall lights exist but are not functional. The waiting area inside fare control has windows that allow a full view of the platforms and tracks. The northern half of the station without the mezzanine has very high ceilings.

The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences comprises the departments of English and World Literatures, History, International Studies, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Political Science, and Sociology, as well as the college-wide Academic Writing program. StageCoach Theatre Arts was established 1988 in London, England. StageCoach is the Largest Part-Time Performing Arts School in the World. We ensure that each child gets the most out of their experience by building life skills and confidence while having lots of fun. Worldwide over 40,000 students participate in a StageCoach dance, drama and singing class every Saturday morning.
Psychology is concerned with all aspects of the study of behavioral, developmental and cognitive processes, and employs a broad spectrum of approaches, from the social to the biological, to understand them. The Hunter College psychology program reflects the diversity of psychology as a science and as a profession. Its course offerings span this spectrum, from clinical, social and developmental psychology to experimental psychology, ethology, biopsychology and behavioral neuroscience. Students have personal contact with faculty through an extensive advisement system, involvement in departmental activities and committees, supervised field placement, and participation in research laboratories under the guidance of faculty mentors as part of our independent study, honors and COR (Career Opportunities in Research and Education) programs. A broad range of applied research opportunities are available within the department in developmental psychology, social psychology, human adjustment, animal behavior, physiological psychology and abnormal psychology. Departmental affiliations with mental health and community organizations make it possible for students to integrate their academic studies of personality, abnormal and child psychology with supervised practical experience by means of field placements and opportunities for applied research. Hunter College offers two Master’s programs: a MA in Psychology and a MA in Animal Behavior and Conservation (ABC). The Master’s program in Psychology allows students to tailor their studies and thesis work toward the areas of Applied, Developmental Social and/or Biological Psychology. The Master’s in ABC is designed for students interested in the fields of Animal Behavior, Conservation, and Animal Welfare. Hunter College also offers a Certificate program in ABC (registered with the New York State Education Department) open to post-baccalaureate students who by virtue of prior education or experience are qualified for additional training. The CUNY doctoral program in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience is housed at Hunter College. Qualified undergraduate students in their senior year may be admitted to graduate courses with the approval of the instructor and the department's graduate advisor. The presence of graduate programs at Hunter increases opportunities for undergraduates to interact and work with graduate students in research laboratories.

Accounting Society of Hunter College(ASHC) is dedicated to serving the needs and interests of students majoring in Accounting. We organize a variety of events and activities that expose students to different opportunities in the Accounting field. Our activities include career opportunity events,speaker engagements, and professional development workshops. Every year ASHC participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. ASHC coordinates with IRS sponsors, trains ASHC members, and hosts the VITA program on campus.
The LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center at Roosevelt House was founded in 2008 by Hunter College faculty with interest in utilizing their research to improve public policy for LGBTQ individuals and communities. Our mission is built upon their vision for creating bridges between researchers and the policy arena. The Center is rooted in interdisciplinary social science and comprised of an Executive Committee, Hunter Advisory Board, CUNY Research Board, and an active student policy group (AQuIPS) https://www.facebook.com/aquipshunter. All board members are social science researchers or policy faculty with expertise in LGBTQ issues or in gender and sexuality more broadly. The mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Social Science & Public Policy Center is to support social science and policy research on LGBT issues to inform policy decisions; to disseminate findings to inform public opinion and promote LGBT social, health, and political equity; and to provide LGBT policy academic training and practicum opportunities for Hunter students. We aim to: Address the key current LGBT policy issues in New York City, New York State, the United States, and Internationally Create a public platform for social scientists and policy scholars to contribute to public policy discussions Increase the visibility of LGBT policy-relevant research Foster collaboration and collegiality between CUNY researchers and policy scholars addressing LGBT policy issues across campuses Support social science and policy faculty in their LGBT research and in making their work accessible to a broader audience LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center holds public symposia on pressing policy issues bringing together policy makers with researchers in the field, book talks with social scientists writing on key LGBTQ social issues, brown bags featuring the work of board members, and policy round tables. Board members serve as experts in policy hearings, consult on the drafting of legislation, produce policy white papers, and teach their students about engaged scholarship. We also support a student policy group (AQuIPS), offer undergraduate classes, and an intensive undergraduate fellowship program. Education sociologist Dr. Elizabethe Payne currently serves as Interim Director. Her Queering Education Research Institute (QuERI) http://www.queeringeducation.org is now housed in the LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center. The LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center is located in Hunter’s Casa Lally, 132 East 65th Street, on the third floor. It is two blocks east on 65th Street from Roosevelt House.
