German Fest is an ethnic festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the Henry Maier Festival Park, on the Lake Michigan lakefront. The genesis of German Fest occurred when Mayor Henry Maier challenged the local German-American community during a speech on May 20, 1980, at the 20th Anniversary of the German American National Congress (DANK) to organize a German festival. Shortly thereafter, Walter Geissler, then President of D.A.N.K., chaired a committee of five members that laid the foundation for the Fest. The charter of German Fest was subsequently written in January 1981. The first German Fest was held in August 1981. It is billed as the "Largest German celebration in North America" and "Milwaukee’s Original Haus Party". It currently occurs during the last full weekend in July. As of 1993, Milwaukee had a 52% German population, which is the largest European percentage in a major U.S. metropolitan area.German Fest celebrates the culture, food, travel, and history of Germany, as well as Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, South Tyrol, and German-speaking communities around the world. Along with traditional music, many from the Europe also make the journey to perform and educate at the festival. The Junge Kameraden Band from Plymouth High School led by the highly acclaimed band director, Jason Sebranek, traditionally performs at German Fest annually.

The Baumbach Building, also known as the Midwest Lamp Company or The Buffalo, is a historic building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Part of the Historic Third Ward, the five-story building was one of the city's first Chicago School factories.HistoryThe Baumbach Building was designed by German architect Eugene R. Liebert, who was commissioned by Ernest Von Baumbach. It was built in the Third Ward, a former residential district which had been largely destroyed in a 1892 fire. In its place, a warehouse district emerged. The five-story building was started in 1899 and completed the next year. The Von Baumbachs were a prominent German family in Milwaukee; patriarch Ludwig was previously a member of the Frankfurt Parliament and served in Milwaukee as the Consul of the German Empire. Ernest was his sixth son and pursued a career in real estate.The building was recognized by the National Park Service with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places on March 3, 1983. On March 8, 1984, the building became a contributing property of the Historic Third Ward District.ArchitectureThe building is located on Commission Row, a section of the Third Ward historically dominated by the produce wholesale business. Its design is a blend of an early Chicago School motif with Renaissance Revival influences. The main entrance is recessed behind a light grey stone column. The capital of the column is consistent with German design with carved heads in relief. The Baumbach stands 80x with four bays on the west side and six bays on the south side. The first floor has large storefront windows while the second, third, and fourth floor windows are double-hung. The fifth floor features round arched windows which are separated with carved lions' heads on a Celtic cross medallion. Carved crowns in a cartouche decorate the second floor corners. The interior was originally a standard warehouse design, but the first floor has since been divided into office space.

100 East Wisconsin, or The Faison Building is a skyscraper located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Erected in 1989 on the site of the old Pabst Building, its design is reflective of the authentic German architecture which has been preserved in downtown Milwaukee. It is bordered on the west by the Milwaukee River along the Milwaukee Riverwalk. It is the second tallest building in Wisconsin, behind the U.S. Bank Center, also located in downtown Milwaukee.HistoryThe location of 100 East Wisconsin at the northwest corner of East Wisconsin avenue and North Water Street has historically been viewed as the oldest building site within the city. This is the case as it was the location of the Milwaukee's first European settlement by Henry Vieau, the site of city founder Solomon Juneau's original cabin and trading post constructed in 1820 and the site of the 235ft, 14-story Pabst Building constructed in 1891 and demolished in 1981.After failing to develop a high-rise called River Place in the early 1980s, the owners of the property at 100 East Wisconsin sold the property to Charlotte developer Faison Associates in December 1987. Following the purchase, in January 1987 Faison released renderings of the tower designed by the Charlotte architecture firm of Clark, Tribble, Harris & Li. The tower was to rise as the second tallest building in the city, behind the U.S. Bank Center, contain of office space and 410 parking spaces.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering is a private university located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Constructed in 1882 and dedicated in 1883, Turner Hall is a unique four-story, multi-use facility owned by the Milwaukee Turners. The Hall is constructed of Milwaukee’s characteristic cream city brick. Complete with gymnasium (which features the largest climbing wall and bouldering cave in downtown Milwaukee), restaurant/beer hall (currently being renovated), Gestern Hall (the site of MPTV-produced social issues show 4th St. Forum), and a modern two-story ballroom (operated by the Pabst Theater), Turner Hall continues to house events and activities that promote the development of both a sound mind and a sound body. Turner Hall is the only building in Milwaukee that currently holds the three following honorary architectural and historical designations: a National Landmark, a listing on the National Registry of Historic Places, and a local Historical Landmark.

The Moderne is a 30-story high-rise in Milwaukee. It stands at 348 feet (106 meters) tall, making it the tallest building in the city west of the Milwaukee River. The tower's ground floor is used occupied by Carson's Ribs, with the remaining floors used for apartments, condominiums, and parking.
