The Georgia Department of Economic Development's Workforce Division was created to improve the job training and marketability of Georgia's workforce and drive future economic growth for the state. Originally started as the Governor's Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) in 2006 and moved under the administration of GDEcD in 2014, it was established to implement state workforce development policy as directed by the Governor and to serve as staff to the State Workforce Investment Board.
