Welcome to the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS). CLASS provides education in the arts, philosophy, literature, languages, and social sciences– fields that help us to understand ourselves and others and provide meaning and richness to our world. CLASS represents EKU’s enduring commitment to a liberal arts education as the intellectual foundation for work, life, and citizenship. In CLASS, we offer courses and academic programs that provide students with the foundation for success in a dynamic, fast-paced, and diverse world. These foundational skills help students excel and lead in any career, cultivate the creativity and critical thinking to adapt to diverse environments, and resolve society’s most challenging problems in a culturally competent and ethical way. CLASS is focused on cultivating skills that are vital to the contemporary workplace - teamwork, critical thinking, communication, and leadership. CLASS houses the departments of Anthropology/Sociology/Social Work; Art and Design; English and Theatre; Government; History; Interdisciplinary Programs; Languages, Cultures, and Humanities; the School of Music; Philosophy and Religion; and Psychology. Interdisciplinary Programs include academic minors in African/African-American Studies, Appalachian Studies, Asian Studies, Applied Creative Thinking, Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship, International Studies, Veterans’ Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. It also houses the interdisciplinary academic areas of Service-Learning and Education Abroad. The Dean’s office is located in Keen Johnson, positioning it at the center of campus, as is appropriate to the foundational role its departments play in educating all EKU students. Founded in 1988, the EKU Honors Program makes the best intellectual resources at EKU available to a limited group of talented and motivated students. Students take honors program classes that replace some or all of EKU's general education curriculum. Each year, more students from the EKU Honors Program present at the annual meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council than do students from any other honors program in the nation. Living in the centrally located Burnam Hall and attending numerous cultural activities together, EKU Honors students form a tight honors community and make friends that last a lifetime.
The School of Music at Eastern Kentucky University offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are certified by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

EKU Emergency Management is responsible for emergency planning, notification, and training for the campus community.
As the only program of its kind in Kentucky, EKU Aviation provides the aerospace industry with the best trained and safest professional pilots, and the most forward thinking managers coming out of academia today. The Bachelor of Science degree has concentrations in Professional Flight, Aerospace Management, or Aerospace Technology (AT). Besides a general aviation core, aviation students are required to take supporting courses in mathematics, statistics, physics, and business management. Graduates of the program are professionally prepared for all facets of the aerospace and aviation industry to include piloting, flight instruction, aviation management, and aerospace technology.
The Office of Engagement and Regional Stewardship oversees the interests of the University throughout the region, Commonwealth of Kentucky and at the national level. Our office serves as the primary point of contact between the EKU and local, state and federal government offices and legislative bodies. Our Office works with elected officials, executive branch leaders and other universities to develop and implement strategies and programs to achieve public funding goals, and to foster positive and effective ongoing relationships, while improving the understanding of and support for the University's academic, research, technological, and public service goals.
The I-O Master's program at EKU prepares high-quality professionals with a foundation in theories, methods, and research findings of basic and applied psychology and with the skills to effectively apply this knowledge in organizations. Graduates are trained to work in various activities for improving an organization’s effectiveness, to conduct research and be sophisticated consumers of research, and to pursue doctoral level training. The Communication Disorders program at Eastern Kentucky University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified and ethical professionals to provide effective, evidence-based speech-language pathology and audiology services to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds with communication and swallowing disorders. Established in 1969, the Communication Disorders program was one of the first programs in the Special Education Department at EKU. We remain the only program in the commonwealth of Kentucky to provide Communication Disorders M.A. Ed graduates with a Rank 1 certification from the Educational Professional Standards Board. Graduates also have the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate. The CD Program offers both an undergraduate B.S. and a graduate M.A. Ed. in Communication Disorders. The Master of Arts (MA) education program in Speech-Language Pathology at Eastern Kentucky University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership/Teacher Leadership – The Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership/Teacher Leadership is a 30credit program designed to prepare educators for leadership roles in education. The program will help teachers improve their leadership and classroom skills. Educational Specialist (Ed.S.)/Principal The Educational Specialist degree is designed for educators possessing a master’s degree, with at least three years’ teaching experience, who wish to further their abilityto improvestudent achievement, leadership skills, and knowledgeofcurriculum, instruction, and assessment. The coursework is comprised of 30 hours. The coursework contains Level I initial certification (24 hours) for principals and Level II (6 hour internship) leading to ongoing certification for principals. School Superintendent Certificate This program requires Level II principal certification and a minimum 2 years’ administration experience serving on a certificate. It is designed to prepare people to lead district efforts to improve district performance. It is a 12 hour program. School District Director of Pupil Personnel Services Certificate This 18 hour program will certify individual to be the central office director of pupil personnel. Must have completed Level I principal courses. School District Supervisor of Instruction Certificate K-12 This program prepares instructional supervisors for school district-wide leadership. Initial certification for supervisor of instruction requires completion of an approved master’s degree, Level II Instructional Leadership program or certification, and three year of teaching experience. Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is a terminal degree offered by Eastern Kentucky University for persons seeking to provide leadership for positively impacting schools and communities. Participation in this doctoral program will lead to enhanced understanding and practical capacity with regard to human learning, educational institutions, and the interaction of the larger society with educational, financial, and governmental entities and processes. Likewise, program participation will allow for the acquisition of skills to think critically and creatively, to communicate effectively, and to conduct and apply research.
