As the only program of its kind in Kentucky, EKU Aviation provides the aerospace industry with the best trained and safest professional pilots, and the most forward thinking managers coming out of academia today. The Bachelor of Science degree has concentrations in Professional Flight, Aerospace Management, or Aerospace Technology (AT). The Communication Disorders program at Eastern Kentucky University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified and ethical professionals to provide effective, evidence-based speech-language pathology and audiology services to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds with communication and swallowing disorders. Established in 1969, the Communication Disorders program was one of the first programs in the Special Education Department at EKU. We remain the only program in the commonwealth of Kentucky to provide Communication Disorders M.A. Ed graduates with a Rank 1 certification from the Educational Professional Standards Board. Graduates also have the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate. The CD Program offers both an undergraduate B.S. and a graduate M.A. Ed. in Communication Disorders. Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership/Teacher Leadership – The Master of Arts in Instructional Leadership/Teacher Leadership is a 30credit program designed to prepare educators for leadership roles in education. The program will help teachers improve their leadership and classroom skills. Educational Specialist (Ed.S.)/Principal The Educational Specialist degree is designed for educators possessing a master’s degree, with at least three years’ teaching experience, who wish to further their abilityto improvestudent achievement, leadership skills, and knowledgeofcurriculum, instruction, and assessment. The coursework is comprised of 30 hours. The coursework contains Level I initial certification (24 hours) for principals and Level II (6 hour internship) leading to ongoing certification for principals. School Superintendent Certificate This program requires Level II principal certification and a minimum 2 years’ administration experience serving on a certificate. It is designed to prepare people to lead district efforts to improve district performance. It is a 12 hour program. School District Director of Pupil Personnel Services Certificate This 18 hour program will certify individual to be the central office director of pupil personnel. Must have completed Level I principal courses. School District Supervisor of Instruction Certificate K-12 This program prepares instructional supervisors for school district-wide leadership. Initial certification for supervisor of instruction requires completion of an approved master’s degree, Level II Instructional Leadership program or certification, and three year of teaching experience. Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is a terminal degree offered by Eastern Kentucky University for persons seeking to provide leadership for positively impacting schools and communities. Participation in this doctoral program will lead to enhanced understanding and practical capacity with regard to human learning, educational institutions, and the interaction of the larger society with educational, financial, and governmental entities and processes. Likewise, program participation will allow for the acquisition of skills to think critically and creatively, to communicate effectively, and to conduct and apply research.
