Houston Center is a retail and office complex in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. It is owned and operated by subsidiaries of Crescent Real Estate Equities Co. (NYSE: CEI).The three towers in Houston Center have almost 3400000sqft of Class A office space. The buildings in Houston Center include: LyondellBasell Tower (formerly 1 Houston Center) 2 Houston Center Fulbright Tower (formerly 3 Houston Center) 4 Houston Center 5 Houston Center The Shops in Houston Center (formerly The Park Shops) The Shops, built in 1982, is an enclosed shopping mall.HistoryTexas Eastern Corporation bought 32 blocks of land in Downtown Houston for $50 million. Texas Eastern razed the existing buildings and proposed building Houston Center, a large office space development. Texas Eastern planned to build elevated walkways, people movers, and underground garages. Houston Center was one of the largest private development projects ever, however only a small portion of the plan was realized, leaving a large swath of downtown Houston covered in parking lots and vacant land. Panhandle Eastern Corporation acquired Houston Center when Texas Eastern was sold to Panhandle for $2.5 billion in stock in June 1989. Later that year Panhandle sold Houston Center to JMB Realty for $400 million; Panhandle planned to use the money from the sale to reduce its debt, which it accumulated from the merger. Panhandle planned to move out of the 900000sqft of office space that it occupied in Houston Center and move its operations and 1,300 employees at Houston Center to its corporate headquarters near the Uptown District. Panhandle planned to move in increments over a three-year period after 1989, with one third of its Houston Center workforce moving each year. In 1989 Houston Center consisted of three office buildings and one hotel. Its occupancy rate in December 1989 was about 90%.

Intelligence, diligence and Empathy Our clients are engaged in the most challenging aspects of medical science and patient care, in leading-edge research and in first-rate educational programs. Working with WHR Architects they find a firm culture that values research and evaluation, participatory process and applied innovation — characteristics that they know will help them achieve and maintain their high expectations for excellence. Our projects are complex facilities designed to support the vital missions of such clients. From state-of-the-art laboratories and critical care units to patient-centric environments and high-performance classrooms, our work depends on the successful integration of building technology, operational efficiency and aesthetics. We continually seek to balance critical thinking and creativity, single-minded commitment and collaboration, rapid response and long-term vision. It takes a special kind of talent to consistently deliver this level of client experience and architectural results. At WHR, we take team building seriously by recruiting, training, nurturing and challenging our planners, architects and interior designers to understand better, reach further and care more. And they do. Staff members at all levels of the firm take leadership positions in research, design, management, teaching and mentorship — on projects and through their contributions to client organizations and the profession. The reward for this holistic effort is a heartfelt engagement with clients, with community stakeholders, with facilities’ staff, with patients or students, with consultants and, importantly, with each other. At WHR it’s architecture with people in mind. History WHR founder David Watkins met Kirk Hamilton in 1965 as freshmen in The University of Texas School of Architecture in Austin and by graduation they had already made plans to start a firm. Those student dreams were fully realized in 1983 when Kirk joined David, then Watkins Reid to form Watkins Carter Hamilton. In 1997 the firm became Watkins Hamilton Ross in recognition of the contributions and leadership of Ken Ross. In 2004 Kirk Hamilton joined Texas A&M University as a professor in the College of Architecture. He continues to pursue the pioneering work in evidence-based design for which WHR is highly recognized, often working in close collaborations with his WHR colleagues. Today, as WHR Architects, the firm benefits from the wisdom and experience of 24 shareholders and the extraordinary efforts of a staff of over 125 professionals. We serve our clients nationally from offices in Houston and Dallas, Texas; and Copenhagen, Denmark.

The philosophy of Studio RED began with a desire to create a firm that was different and better. We asked clients what they wanted in an architecture firm and what we heard was: "Someone who is innovative, understands the big picture, but is also practical and will work within the budget." "We want to know that we really will get to work with the principals." "Architects who go out of their way to listen, solicit input and pay attention to details." "Experience to know what works and doesn't, but are not afraid to try new things." So, fueled with our passion to do quality architecture and with an insistence on design excellence, superior project management and outstanding service, Studio RED was created.
