The Rose Center for Earth and Space is a part of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The Center's complete name is The Frederick Phineas and Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space. The main entrance is located on the northern side of the museum on 81st Street near Central Park West in Manhattan's Upper West Side. Neil deGrasse Tyson is its first and, only director.HistoryThe center is an extensive reworking of the former Hayden Planetarium, whose first projector, dedicated in 1935, had 2 successors previous to the current one.The original Hayden Planetarium was founded in 1933 with a donation by philanthropist Charles Hayden. In 1935, the Hayden Planetarium, designed by architects Trowbridge & Livingston, opened, after its construction was funded by a $650,000 loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and a $150,000 donation from banker Charles Hayden of Hayden, Stone & Co. Its mission was to give the public "a more lively and sincere appreciation of the magnitude of the universe... and for the wonderful things which are daily occurring in the universe." Joseph M. Chamberlain, hired as an assistant curator in 1952, became Chairman of the Planetarium in 1956. In 1960, a Zeiss Mark IV projector was installed, followed by a Zeiss Mark VI projector and new seats in 1993.

We made this page for story tellers and those who like to or feel like expressing themselves in a short, little story. People post their thoughts, quotes, and ideas on their Facebook all the time. Even when talking to their friends face to face people are pretty much telling stories, so we encourage people to come to our page and tell us stories. Fantasies. Instead of writing about your personal life events in common everyday phrases, tell it a story; in a fantasy. Most of us can't help but try to entertain our friends and family by telling them jokes and, or short stories, but some of us are not 'writer's' per say. Perhaps you're more of a poet, or straight rapper or singer-songwriter. Well come on in and drop a story if you please. Just add a vampire, or a dungeons and dragons adventurer who meets a sexy wizard in there! Lol. Only if you're into that type of stuff. Still, if you're just checking out our page: Like it, and check it out again. See what people like to write about these days!
The Culture Center was founded in 1990 primarily to meet the needs of non-profit organizations and other institutions that do not maintain their own special event spaces. While the Center continues to fulfill that purpose, it has also become a choice venue for individuals to host their own private events. The Culture Center also produces events designed to promote community and cultural exchange. When our calendar and resources permit, we partner with artists, musicians and writers to showcase their work. We have hosted non-profit groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Columbus Avenue BID, World Music Institute, schools and colleges. Our documentary film, Explorer: The Life of Bruce Klepinger, highlighted the life of a trek leader in Nepal and led us to support a Nepali student through college in the United States. We have hosted functions to benefit breast cancer research and children with AIDS. We look forward to developing new programming ideas. Whether you have a global reach or a more personal celebration in mind, The Culture Center can accommodate up to 99 people. Access is directly from Columbus Avenue down a lovely sky-lit stairway flanked by century old exposed brick overlooking a rock garden. The main room can be arranged with a staging area and audience style seating, or more casually. The space has a light oak floor, white walls and track lighting. Like a blank canvas, it can be decorated and styled to suit your vision. The Culture Center also features: Full kitchen and restroom Folding chairs with cushions (60) Tables for conference, buffet service and drinks TV/DVD, Bose sound system and wireless internet connectivity available Coat storage Handicapped access can be arranged
