The J’s St. Louis Jewish Film Festival showcases national and international cinema that explores universal issues through traditional Jewish values, opposing viewpoints and new perspectives. The Jewish Film Festival now offers year round opportunities to experience Jewish films from around the world. Documentaries, dramas and short subject films are presented at the Landmark Plaza Frontenac Cinema for five day in June with introductions by filmmakers and experts in the issues the films bring forth. On Opening Night the winners in both the student and professional categories of the Short Film Competition are presented to the public. The films are created around a theme which reflects Jewish values and can be in a narrative or documentary format. The theme for this year is “Counting Your Blessings”. The Jewish Family Film Festival selects family friendly films for pre-kindergarten through high school students and their families.
Our aim now, as it was in the past, is dedicated to supporting artists as well as using art to awaken the human spirit weaving poetry, music, visual art, and movement into an evening event that integrates the wisdom of other cultures and spiritual traditions with activities to enhance our creativity. We are dedicated to creating diverse events and programs that invite closer examination of the ways spirituality intersects with the arts, sciences, media, politics, and the environment. We hope to stimulate a deeper sense of community by rooting our programs in compassion, social justice, and non-violence. Creating beauty in uncertain times describes our mission simply and accurately. The mystic poet, Rumi, says: Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase each other doesn't make any sense.
