In 2011 four individuals formed Chavez Ridge Disc Golf Club for the purpose of organizing events at Chavez Ridge Disc Golf Course: Steve Valencia, Aaron Hagner Wing Ko, Brandon Val Verde. In late 2011, the club members each pitched in $100 to seed the purchase of dri-fit shirts, mini’s and bag tags for recruitment of new club members. In 2014, the club is 120+ members strong. To this day, we serve as a gateway between our members and the community in organizing weekly doubles, monthly tournaments as well as run an Ice Bowl charity tournament and PDGA sanctioned tournament each year. The Cypress park Community job Center (CPCJC) located at Cypress Park and funded by the city of Los Angeles, this community job center was founded 14 years ago. It is operated by IDEPSCA (Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur de California) a non-profit organization. The center functions as a public safety alternative to soliciting employment on the street corners; these centers help protect day laborers from suffering severe exploitation and unsafe work conditions. How we work: The Cypress Park Community Job Center provides honest, organized, and respectful workers to do the job that may be required from an employer. The employer may call ahead or request a worker in person. CPCJC follows a registration system to distribute jobs, but employers are free to choose any worker in particular.
