BIAC IS CAPOEIRA MANDINGA: What is Capoeira? Originating in Brazil by the African slaves who were forbidden to practice martial arts, capoeira uses music and dance-like movements to disguise the fight. The game of capoeira is played in a roda, or circle, accompanied by percussion, singing, and clapping. It has a rich cultural history that includes an array of folkloric dances and music. It’s also very connected to a plethora of performing arts including those of the quintessential Brazilian Carnival. Capoeira Mandinga offers capoeira, music, and dance classes to children and adults. With over 30 years of expertise, Capoeira Master, Paulo Batuta, directs the San Diego academy, and oversees others in Las Vegas, Mexicali, and Guam. Capoeira Mandinga hosts a variety of specialized workshops throughout the year that are taught by expert teachers from across the country and abroad. Two annual Brazilian performing arts conventions serve to bring students and teachers from around the world together, and to promote capoeira students to higher belts. At MedAwareness, we aim to provide solutions to people with questions about medical refrigeration. We also aim to educate people about options for clinical refrigeration that are designed solely for vaccines and other temperature-regulated medical articles. These options will safeguard the vaccines during their most vulnerable time: at clinical storage, during transit, at off-site immunizations and during power outages. Finally, we intend to enhance our vision of making the world a better place by engaging in Global Community Service and providing medical refrigerators/freezers to economically disadvantaged areas of the world
Through this documentary film, the issue of the failing foster care system will become a recognized problem nationwide. The film will support a movement working toward the goal that every abused and neglected child feels safe and loved, finds a permanent home and has the opportunity to succeed in life. The film will galvanize widespread, concrete actions and long-term changes in public beliefs and behaviors and serve as a call to action for foster care system reform critics. This documentary will bring popular attention to the challenges facing foster care systems, including risks faced by youth aging out and exiting the foster care system with no home, no family and no guidance; the lack of good foster parents and volunteer court-appointed special advocates; and lax scrutiny on infant and toddler abuse. The board and staff of Voiceless pledge to work tirelessly to see that this film helps to: • Reduce the number of children returning to foster care through a revolving door. • Increase the scrutiny on infant and toddler abuse with more strict penalties and faster adjudication. This can be done by identifying clear criteria for a parent to lose 100% custody. • Drive donations and film proceeds to legitimate successful foster youth organization. • Increase support for the youth aging out and exiting the foster care system. • Provide ongoing support to children over the age of four in the foster care system. • Motivate good people to become foster or adoptive parents. • Bring awareness to foster kids. • Help foster kids have a legacy and enable them to build a legacy of their own. • Raise the awareness of the general public about the problem.
Goodwill Industries of San Diego County is a 501(c)(3) charitable, not-for-profit organization, established in 1930 at 16th and Imperial by a group of community leaders with a vision. After more than 60 years in the Gaslamp quarter, in 1994 we moved our offices to our current site in Point Loma. Goodwill believes that work is one of the foundations of a meaningful life. In our over 82 years in this industry, we have witnessed the dramatic impact of the POWER OF WORK. In the beginning we were simply known as an employer of persons with disabilities. Today's Goodwill is a vital, proactive organization that, in addition to providing training and paid work experience to people with developmental disabilities, also offers free services to anyone in the community who is looking for a job. How do we achieve our purpose? We do not conduct traditional fundraising activities, instead we use the revenue from selling donated goods to help fund the operation of our training and employment services. In addition to our retail stores, our operations include document destruction services, e-waste collection, recycling and workforce development.
