Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University is housed in the only building in North America designed by Swiss-born architect Le Corbusier. It hosts the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies, exhibition spaces, studios, classrooms, and the Harvard Film Archive. At CCVA, architecture, design, film, and education combine to provide unparalleled experiences with contemporary art, aiming to enrich the creative and intellectual life of our audiences.

Since 1929, the Center has responded to the changing environment and the needs of the community. Today, our largest programs are our year round youth programs, which include our afterschool program and Cowemoki Summer Enrichment Program. The Center also offers a wide range of programs serving youth, adults, and seniors. These include the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market, our Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon, The Hip Hop Transformation Program, Riverside Art Gallery, and The Coast Kitchen community meals program. Hundreds of individuals use our facilities throughout the year whether they use our services, rent our space for events, or are enrolled in our programs. Many of the staff and children in our programs come from families that have been involved with the Center for four or even five generations, enriching our Center with a strong sense of history, family, and community.

Our mission is to provide a place for local and regional artists of all mediums to exhibit their work and engage the larger community. In addition to regular exhibitions, Gallery 263 is a multi-functional art space, providing opportunities for the public to participate in the creative process through music performances, workshops, film screenings, lectures, artist talks, juried show competitions and yoga.

Eridanos Tattoo and Gallery Eridanos is a custom tattoo shop and contemporary fine art gallery located in the heart of Central Sq. Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our gallery features local and touring tattoo artists, traveling from all over the world. They specialize in every style and aspect of modern tattooing and fine art mediums. The Tattoo and Gallery space (open 6 days a week, Tuesday-Sunday) will be featuring art of varying themes, mediums and artists showcased in a new show every month open to the public. As well as providing educational seminars and workshops that will also be accessible to the public The hope of Eridanos Tattoo and Gallery is to provide an outlet for fine art and tattooing in the Cambridge/Boston area.

Gutman Library Gallery strives to surround our students, faculty, and staff with great works of art and rich food for thought. The library is a public space where students spend a lot of their time and we want to make that time here more beautiful and inspiring through art. Gallery exhibitions rotate each month to showcase a new artist’s work. Accompanying many exhibitions is an opening reception which gives chance for the exhibitor to meet HGSE faculty, staff, students, and community members. The Cambridge Artists' Cooperative is located in famous Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1988, we remain an artist owned and operated Gallery of Contemporary American Craft showcasing the work of over 200 artists from across the USA.

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, known informally simply as The Pudding, is a theatrical student society at Harvard University, known for its burlesque crossdressing musicals. The Hasty Pudding Theatricals was described by John Wheelwright in 1897 as a "kindly association of men of all ages in a gay evening of simple enjoyment".HistoryFormed in 1795 as an artistic-minded fraternity, the Pudding began hosting mock trials of such phenomena as timely Harvard presidents and the study of mathematics. The Pudding put up its first full performance, of a well-known tragic burlesque entitled Bombastes Furioso, on December 13, 1844. It has performed a production every year since, except twice during World War I and twice during World War II. After a period of producing popular comedies written by established playwrights, the Pudding began to write its own shows, starting with a production of Dido and Aeneas written by Owen Wister in 1882.Previous members of Hasty Pudding have included Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, J.P. Charlie's Kitchen is a restaurant serving American fare with New England specialties in the Harvard Square neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts. “Charlie’s” houses bars on two separate floors; additionally, a front patio and backyard beer garden are open seasonally. The Boston Phoenix named it one of the best dive bars in Boston in 2009.HistoryOpened by Charlie Lambrose in 1951, Charlie's Kitchen is considered to be one of the last vestiges of "old" Harvard Square. It is located at 10 Eliot Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Waitress Helen Metros has waited tables at Charlie’s for over 50 years.Green InitiativesDespite the grungy exterior, Charlie’s Kitchen's management has undertaken several eco-friendly initiatives. Divinity Hall, built in 1826, is the oldest building in the Harvard Divinity School at Harvard University. It is located at 14 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts.The Hall was designed by Solomon Willard and Thomas Sumner, and dedicated on August 29, 1826, with William Ellery Channing giving the dedicatory speech, "The Christian Ministry." It was the first Harvard building constructed outside Harvard Yard. As George Huntston Williams wrote in his 1954 history of the Divinity School, theological students needed to be isolated from undergraduates lest they drink up "more of the spirit of the University than of the spirit of their profession." A decade later, on July 15, 1838, Ralph Waldo Emerson delivered his famous Divinity School Address, "Acquaint Thyself at First Hand with Deity," in the Hall.The building is a rectangular two story brick building, laid in Flemish bond, with only minimal brownstone trim. It has a hip roof that is only broken by a gable at the center of the long side, part of a projecting central section three bays wide. The build has a pair of entrances on either side of this central section, which are framed by Greek Revival Doric porticos.In its early days, Divinity Hall contained the entire Divinity School. It was later used as a dormitory, then classrooms. Notable residents have included Ralph Waldo Emerson, Theodore Parker, and philosopher George Santayana. Its chapel contains a fine organ by George S. Hutchings, recently restored.

Pforzheimer House, nicknamed PfoHo , is one of twelve undergraduate residential Houses at Harvard University. It was named in 1995 for Carol K. and Carl H. Pforzheimer Jr, major University and Radcliffe College benefactors, and their family.Located in the Radcliffe Quadrangle, PfoHo comprises Ada Louise Comstock, Daniel Henry Holmes, Mary Buckminster Moors, and Wolbach Halls, in addition to Faculty Row and the Jordan North and South buildings.PfoHo's shield features black and crimson squares on a crimson and black field; its mascots are the polar bear and the Pf bigram. The present House Masters are Anne Harrington and her husband, John Durant.HistoryEarly yearsRadcliffe College students first took up residence on campus in 1901, and the oldest parts of PfoHo date to that year.Moors opened in time for the 1949-1950 academic year, the year plans for Holmes were first drawn up. Construction of Comstock began in 1957.The Jordans, two separate buildings located at the corner of Walker and Shepard Streets, began as an experiment in cooperative living in 1961. They gradually became used as overflow housing in 1985, although one building persisted as a co-op until at least until 1997.Wolbach, formerly an apartment building, was purchased by Radcliffe in 1964.North HouseThe name "North House" first appeared in 1961 and consisted of Comstock, Moors, and Holmes. Keenan and his wife Joan became the first masters of North house. They moved into the newly constructed masters residence at 46 Linnaean Street. The Sears Tower—Harvard Observatory is an historic astronomical observatory that is part of Harvard Observatory and is located at 60 Garden Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Now just a portion of the observatory's Building A, the Sears Tower is the oldest portion of the complex, designed by Isaiah Rogers and constructed in 1843. This structure is a square brick building, with a projecting cornice and a Greek Revival entrance framed by pilasters. The dome was equipped with a 15-inch telescope, the state of the art at the time.The tower was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Rindge Towers is an affordable housing development in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Completed in 1970, the three 22-story towers make up a 504-unit apartment complex located in close proximity to the Alewife MBTA station at the terminus of the Red Line. The towers are named for Frederick H. Rindge, the philanthropist who funded construction of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Cambridge City Hall, and the Cambridge Public Library.The towers are built in the Le Corbusier style, which advocated dense high-rise housing complexes set within parks and open spaces. This style has since fallen out of fashion in favor of mixed-use and mixed-income development. Also known as "Fresh Pond Apartments I, II and III", the buildings are by far the tallest in North Cambridge; their height is estimated at 269ft.Originally constructed to spur development in the Alewife region of Cambridge, the towers—like many high-rise housing projects of the era—quickly became associated with crime and fell into disrepair. Living conditions at the towers have improved from their nadir in the 1980s. However, the complex is still a focus for law enforcement activity, and in 2008 the Cambridge Police opened a substation at the towers.
