The Denver Mint is a branch of the United States Mint that struck its first coins on February 1, 1906. The mint is still operating and producing coins for circulation, as well as mint sets and commemorative coins. Coins produced at the Denver Mint bear a D mint mark (not to be confused with the mark of the Dahlonega Mint). The Denver Mint is the single largest producer of coins in the world.HistoryClark, Gruber & Co.The predecessors of the Denver Mint were the men of Clark, Gruber and Company. During the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, they coined gold dust brought from the gold fields by the miners. In 1858, Austin M. Clark, Milton E. Clark and Emanuel Henry Gruber founded a brokerage firm in Leavenworth, Kansas, and then established an office in Denver at the beginning of the Colorado Gold Rush. Desiring to save on shipping and insurance costs associated with shipping gold back east, the firm opened a private mint. On 25 July 1860, the mint opened in a two story brick building on the corner of Market and 16th Streets, minting $10 gold pieces at the rate of "fifteen or twenty coins a minute". "On the face is a representation of the peak, its base surrounded by a forest of timber and 'Pikes Peak Gold' encircling the summit. Immediately under its base is the word 'Denver', and beneath it 'Ten D.'. On the reverse is the American Eagle encircled by the name of the firm 'Clark, Gruber & Co.', and beneath the date, '1860'.A $20 gold coin was added, "the weight will be greater, but the value the same as the United States coin of like denomination". A $5 and a $2.5 gold coin were added, with production reaching $18,000 per week. On the front was the "head of the Goddess of Liberty surrounded by thirteen stars, with 'Clark & Company' in the tiara. "Pikes's Peak Gold, Denver" was on the other side, with "5D." or "2 1/2 D."
Located steps from the 16th Street Mall and the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the restaurant’s sunny front windows look out onto busy Curtis Street. The décor will reflect Baur’s enduring elegance, taking guests back in time. Old, decorative tile floors are being exposed and an original chandelier still twinkles. Spira even tracked down a large, ornate cabinet from the candy shop at a local yoga studio. With the Baur’s legacy in mind, Spira began the hunt for a tenant who could connect Baur’s past with modern sensibilities–and is thrilled about opening a restaurant with a historic name. Enter Dory Ford, the proprietor of Baur’s, Est. 1872. A successful chef, restaurateur and businessman from California’s Central Coast, Ford focuses on sustainability and seasonality in his food for AQUA TERRA Culinary. Expect the menu for Baur’s, Est. 1872, crafted along with executive chef Robert Grant, to center on timeless classics. New seating in the restaurant will largely be movable, accommodating various configurations for music performances. The M/A/S music program aims to give a stage to smaller ensembles in genres that often lack exposure: chamber music, jazz, solo piano and more. Two performance rooms can host CD release parties, ticketed performances and private events. One of the rooms is gracefully separated from the larger restaurant space with stately French doors. Inside, the room’s high ceiling creates gorgeous acoustics for intimate music performances. Ample seating options and audio/video capabilities make the room a perfect place for meetings, luncheons, and gatherings of all kinds. http://www.baursmagic.com http://www.twitter.com/baursmagic http://www.facebook.com/BaursListeningLounge
Alex Palacio "Artista" It's hard to define one specific medium to what I do, I wouldn't want there to be just one either. As I've grown into an artist, dabbling into all forms of art has enlightened me with my own "Artista" style. I started with simple black and white drawings of hands in my early teens, then progressed to black and white portraits of people. When I soon discovered that color would soon be my friend, I started incorporating color in portraits that led to acrylic and oil paintings. Still only focusing on realistic portraits. Then.... I discovered spray paint and little did I realize, color was my best friend. I went from black and white realism to vibrant sci-if, mystical landscapes that only exist in my world.... In starting my business Artista LLC in the summer of 2013, I wanted to shine light to beautiful art that can be created through spray paint. Art is a form of reality that is perceived through artists eyes and transferred through their fingers. It's is a form of communication and understanding one another. Artista is this and more. What is most important to me is being able to create a painting through your inspiration, and this is what I am as an artist. -A ARTISTA now consists of Alex and her apprentices which at this moment include 3, Zach, Melissa and Jay. I soon hope to expand and be able to teach more future artists.
Our independent restaurant members bring amazing dining experiences to our community, while emphasizing Denver’s unique flavor and culinary flair. Independence as path to engagement. The art of the original meal creates the pathway to one-of-a-kind experiences. Camaraderie is critical to our success. Through our association, we all benefit from each other’s knowledge and wisdom, leveraging the strength of our numbers through shared market exposure. Support makes us all successful. By supporting the community around us – the community of independent restaurants, of local food growers and suppliers, and economic community, and our community at-large through ongoing efforts to raise awareness of conserving and preserving, buying fresh and buying local, we are educating future generations of restaurateurs and diners of the true value of independence.
Reading, writing, computing and arithmetic - The fundamentals of education have changed. It’s hard to imagine a job that doesn’t use a computer in some way shape or form, yet Colorado’s school system has struggled to close the technology gap for under-resourced youth. The gap between rich and poor is also a gap between those who have access to the opportunities technology brings and those without. In 2004, KidsTek, in collaboration with the University of Denver's Colorado Community-Based Research Network wrote a research study of the technology gap in Colorado - and its ramifications for our kids. Since KidsTek's inception, we have been working to to bridge that digital divide.

Wapiyapi is a Denver-based nonprofit organization offering a community of hope and support to families with childhood cancer. Our free camps, retreats and supportive services provide children with cancer and their families from Colorado, and beyond, a brief respite from their disease. Through participation in a variety of therapeutic group activities, our participants learn that they do not face their challenges alone. At Wapiyapi we know that our programs improve the mental health and outlook of our participants who are often stigmatized by childhood cancer and its effects upon their family. Healing does not always happen in hospitals. At Wapiyapi we establish additional circles from which families may draw the strength, support and inspiration necessary to continue healing.
