When the distinguished Lipman Wolfe Department Store opened in 1912, it was an architectural marvel. Now, more than a century later, it’s a historic architectural marvel, and the proud home of Kimpton Hotel Monaco, a top-notch choice among hotels in Portland, Oregon. The soaring ceilings, picture windows, and design lines that mimic those of the original department store are all in keeping with preserving Portland’s rich heritage. Inside, you’ll find a show-stopping lobby, a central gathering area where the socializing extends far beyond the wine hour (which, by the way, is packed with offbeat events and interesting people every night). Throughout the hotel, you’ll feel as if you stepped inside the well-curated home of a world traveler, with whimsical and vintage touches everywhere you turn. It’s all complemented by a staff that allows us to outshine hotels in Portland, Oregon with their deep local knowledge, attentive service, and a location that can’t be beat.
Ace Hotel Portland is a small hotel in historical downtown Portland, Oregon, near PSU and the Pearl District. We are blocks from Powell’s Books and within walking distance of the many cultural districts. You can also take public transportation to see other popular attractions like the Trailblazers, the Rose Garden, or the Rose Festival. Ace has a penchant for organic, authentic, unique design. Although we have been called a boutique hotel and a hip hotel, we’re not sure what that really means. We’re a little modern, and a little bohemian. Our rooms are pet-friendly (which basically means dog-friendly), so we encourage you to bring the whole family. Our 79 rooms have many eco-friendly, sustainable, and green elements, like vintage furniture, low-VOC paints and recycled materials throughout. Our accommodations offer simple luxury for cheap. Room service and free wi-fi are available, too. And we also offer free rental bikes for getting around the city. You can take classic black and white analog photos in the photobooth we have in the lobby, but you might have to wait in line. Get a glimpse into the Portland happy hour scene at Clyde Common, a bar and restaurant adjacent to the lobby. It’s open late and their food and drink are some of the best in the city. We also have music events with DJs and bands at the Cleaners, our event space next door. The Cleaners is also available to rent for corporate events, weddings, or parties.

(Just check out our warm, glowing lanterns and a handmade kayak, crafted in nearby Hood River, that greets your arrival.) Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel has carefully curated unique experiences for all our guests (kids and pets, too), showcasing only the best of what this region has to offer. This attention to detail and commitment to quality extends from the kind employees we staff and the fresh ingredients we cook to the indulgent amenities offered and creative programming scheduled. In our idyllic world, one can start the day sipping a cup of small-batch roasted coffee in a riverside courtyard and close it down by toasting s’mores sticks under a star-sprinkled Oregon sky.
