The FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island is an outdoor amphitheater located on the man-made peninsula, Northerly Island, in Chicago, Illinois. Opening June 2005, the venue is a temporary structure, with the season running from June until September. Known as the "Venue with a View", the amphitheater has views of Lake Michigan, Burnham Harbor, Soldier Field and the Chicago Skyline.HistoryThe venue lies on the former site of Meigs Field. On March 30, 2003, Mayor Richard M. Daley ordered a midnight demolition of the airfield. The construction crew excavated six large X's on the runway. Daley stated the continued operation of the airfield was a threat to Chicago's cityscape, using the events of 9/11 as a reference. The airfield was set to continue operation until 2011, when it would be turned over to the City of Chicago. No one within state or city government were consulted on the demolition besides Daley. The Federal Aviation Administration fined the city $33,000, with an additional one million paid in grants. In August 2003, construction crews were sent in to continue demolition of the airfield. Originally, the space was planned to become an aviation museum. Daley refuted the plan and proposed the space become a lakefront park and nature reserve. Within the allocated 91 acres, Northerly Island was born. Over four acres were set aside for the forthcoming music venue.

With a history dating as far back as the 1800’s when the building belonged to The Chicago Illuminating Company, a predecessor of ComEd, the space boasts an urban, contemporary flair and reflects the resurgence of the South Loop neighborhood. Operated under the direction of Marta Michulka since 2004, the venue is noted for premier events including corporate and social, galas, weddings, product launches and film shoots. 19 East is now owned and managed by Food For Thought, Chicago's premium catering company. Marta Michulka will continue to operate the property and venue immediately adjacent at 2110 South Wabash Avenue. It will be marketed under the name of the Chicago Illuminating Company. “I look forward to working with Food For Thought to leverage special event opportunities that showcase the unique qualities of both venues,” said Michulka. Nancy Sharp, Food For Thought’s Chief Executive Officer, notes that the acquisition was a natural choice given the resurgence of the city’s Cultural Mile. “South Michigan Avenue has seen an explosion of growth in civic, retail, cultural and business development,” says Sharp. “What were once traditional manufacturing buildings, are now hosting the finest events in the city. We are thrilled to be a part of this South Loop renaissance, which has also attracted many prominent hoteliers and restaurateurs to the neighborhood. The investment into the Cultural Mile is the perfect representation of the Food For Thought brand,” adds Sharp.

Coup d'état is an intimate lounge and live-venue. More than a nightclub, Coup d'état is quite literally a blow against the current state of lounge and nightlife culture in Chicago. Comfortable, chic and most definitely sexy, it combines rustic charm and modern design. Primitive futurism maybe? Yes it looks good in magazines, but it feels even better. It's the perfect spot to relax, sip a well made cocktail and chill with friends. Cozy up to the bar or lounge on a banquette. You know how certain records just make you feel sexy? The right room has the same power.
