Maryville Student Government is here to act as the student voice in our relations with the faculty and staff. We aid students with any concerns they have around campus, from Residential Life to food service to school policy. We take the wants and needs of the students to the administration and work to change Maryville for the better. Over the past several years, we have been instrumental in several changes on campus such as free laundry, introduction of the Kaldi's coffeehouse, a change in the snow schedule policy, a partnership with Green Maryville for the sustainability initiative, changes in the options and availability of the dining hall, and more. We would like to continue making important changes on campus, but we need your help. We need the students of Maryville to inform us when there are issues that need to be resolved and to stand with us when we seek the resolution. We want you to be a part of Maryville Student Government, whether you run for office or not. Help us change the face of Maryville, and we will help you have the best college experience you can possibly have!
Maryville University is a selective, comprehensive and nationally ranked private institution with 5,033 students. Maryville’s athletics teams compete in 18 sports at the Division II level in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. We have a weekly meeting called, "The Source" at Maryville University, small groups on all campuses, conferences and events for every season, and other events to bring glory to God and bring ourselves and others closer to HIM.
Founded in 1999, The Campus Activities Board is an organization open to all Maryville students and is designed to provide programming opportunities for the Maryville community. CAB is made up of 4 executive officers who oversee all the operations, 7 associate officers who oversee the different committees that CAB is made up of, and 1 advisor who is full time staff in the student involvement office. According to CAB's constitution, the purpose of CAB is a) to conduct activities to meet the interests of students attending the university by providing cultural, educational, and social programs, b) to encourage development of leadership abilities and other skills through participation in programming. CAB events are conducted using revenue collected from the university's student services fee. While many CAB events are free, every CAB event is open to all Maryville University students and most are open to non-Maryville students who come as a guest of a Maryville student. CAB's mission is to enhance the Maryville experience by creating purposeful events for students! Join us in making this happen!
At Maryville, academic excellence is our highest priority. With a growing enrollment of nearly 3,900 students, we pride ourselves on our challenging programs and the caliber of our student body. Maryville offers 50 undergraduate, ten masters’ and four doctoral degree programs. The late St. Louis businessman and philanthropist, Morton D. May, once exhibited his photographs at Maryville. He later established the Morton J. May Foundation Gallery on campus, in his father’s name. Recently relocated to the first floor of the University Library, the Gallery comprises two contemporary rooms of open floor and wall space. Two regional or national artists are typically shown each semester, through exhibits that may include painting, drawing, prints, sculpture, metalwork, photography, illustration and more. Each spring, seniors graduating with a BFA in studio art have an exhibit and in the summer months, the Gallery often features selected artwork of other talented Maryville students.
The Center for Sustainability integrates Maryville's core values of civic engagement, ethical leadership, teaching and global awareness in support of environmental stewardship, social equality, and economic health. The Center initiates encourages, and facilitates, collaborations that bring about sustainable changes at Maryville University and beyond. To accomplish this goal the center collaborates with students, faculty, and staff from administrative, operational and academic units on the Maryville campus. Students are empowered to lead their peers in community-based projects with other students, university personnel, and local community agencies at Maryville and throughout Missouri. Currently, the Center is working with Maryville community to use natural and energy resources responsibly by creating systems that enable individuals and groups to reduce, reuse, and recycle all resources used in our daily activities and to reduce our carbon footprint so that energy losses and corresponding costs can be reduced. The three spheres of sustainability: environment, economy, and society are explored through initiatives, critical thinking, research, challenges, and marketing projects.
Maryville University's Community Service Club is a community of student volunteers that strive to make a difference within the community. We take part in a variety of service projects throughout the year. Office of Service & Spiritual Life Promoting Spiritual Awareness...Developing Social Responsibility...Inspiring Community Service The Office of Service & Spiritual Life promotes spiritual awareness and develops a sense of social responsibility that inspires active participation in community service by the entire Maryville University community. Supports students, faculty and staff of all or no spiritual and/or religious beliefs or affiliations by assisting them to deepen their spiritual and personal awareness and growth Provides opportunities for interaction, dialogue, learning, retreat, meditation, reflection and community building among persons with similar and differing spiritual and/or religious beliefs Creates awareness of local, national and global social issues and promotes social responsibility that leads to action through meaningful community service outreach to the greater St. Louis community and beyond. Reinforces the learning from service experiences through reflection and discussion. The Maryvillle Summer Science and Robotics Program for High Ability Students is an engaging opportunity for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. We offer high end programming with highly qualified faculty, including professors, engineers, computer programmers, and gifted certified teachers. The program is designed for children and teens ages 5-15 who are either already identified as gifted or who perform well above others their age in science, technology, engineering, and/or math including exceptional use of engineering toys such as LEGO or other building sets. Our classrooms have small class sizes and are highly differentiated to meet individual participant needs. Participants work in pairs with ability peers. Class sizes are limited to 12-14 participants with an overall participant to faculty/staff ratio of 1:6. Each classroom contains an expert faculty member and an assistant education student. Some classrooms may also include a graduate student in a gifted education practicum. The program capacity is very limited and expected to fill early. A particularly healthy job market exists for nurses with advanced degrees and the credentials to serve as “physician extenders” in hospitals, clinics and private practices. Maryville's Online Nursing Program offers students an opportunity to become viable candidates for such jobs, but allows them to do so on their own time. The Writing Studio is staffed by screened and trained undergraduate students who engage students in conversation, help them brainstorm topics, create outlines, round out first drafts, and revise complete drafts. Tutors will also focus on organizational strategies, supporting detail, and clarity. Tutors may also counsel students on sentence structure, word choice, and grammar.
Chesterfield Montessori School offers an authentic Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) recognized program for toddlers through adolescents. Students learn in peaceful, mixed-age classrooms equipped with the full range of hands-on Montessori materials, which interconnect all disciplines and provide stimulating challenges that meet the cognitive, emotional, and social needs of each child.
