Modern Woodmen Park, is a minor league baseball venue located in Davenport, Iowa, United States. It is home to the Quad Cities River Bandits, a Class-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, in the shadow of the Centennial Bridge, home run balls to right field often land in the river.Ball park historyAs night games became more necessary, Davenport teams were playing at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, without lights. The city of Davenport realized a lighted stadium, downtown, on the riverfront, would be ideal. Proposed by the Davenport Levee Commission, Municipal Stadium opened May 26, 1931 within LeClaire Park. The ballpark was built at a cost of $185,000. The first night game was June 4, 1931.Expansions in the 1940s and in 1962 brought capacity up to 6,200 and 8,500 respectively. It is one of the oldest ballparks still in use in all of the minor leagues, although it underwent a major renovation before the 1989 season, lowering the seating capacity to 5,200 and before the 2004 season that brought the ballpark up to modern professional baseball standards and a seating capacity of 4,024.on May 27, 1971 the stadium was renamed John O'Donnell Stadium in honor of the longtime sports editor of the Davenport Times-Democrat, shortly following his death. John O'Donnell Stadium was renamed Modern Woodmen Park on December 12, 2007, after Rock Island-based Modern Woodmen of America purchased the naming rights to the facility. O'Donnell's name remains on the ballpark's press box, and is also hidden underneath the main entry marquee, etched into the façade of the stadium, in a single limestone block.

Davenport City Hall is the official seat of government for the city of Davenport, Iowa, United States. The building was constructed in 1895 and is situated on the northeast corner of the intersection of Harrison Street (U.S. Route 61) and West Fourth Street in Downtown Davenport. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 1993.HistoryDavenport started to outgrow its previous city hall, which had been built on Brady Street from 1857-1858. The role of city government expanded during the mayoral administration of Henry Vollmer (1893-1896). Among his major achievements were several public works projects. Streets were paved in the older sections of the city and developers laid out new subdivisions around the perimeter. In 1895, in the midst of a deep national economic depression, Davenport built an ornate new City Hall. The cost was about $90,000 — an astronomical sum at that time — and the City constructed the new building without issuing any municipal bonds. Local legend has long suggested that the city retired the debt so quickly by taxing the city's brothels, but the fines levied against the brothels accounted for only between $7,000-$9,000 per year, just a portion of the financial windfall the city reaped in the mid-1890s. The bulk of the funds came from a new state law (the "mulct tax") which applied to the city's 150 illegal saloons and amounted to around $50,000 per year. This tax allowed for construction not only of City Hall, but also paved streets and a new sewer system, and from 1902–08, the city eliminated its property taxes altogether.

The Scott County Jail is the main detention facility for Scott County, Iowa, United States. Inmates are housed for no more than one year, by Iowa law. It is located in the county seat, Davenport, and is part of same facility as the Scott County Courthouse.HistoryThe oldest section of the jail was completed in 1897. It was designed by prominent Davenport architect Frederick G. Clausen in the Italianate style. The style, which was popular in the late Victorian Era can be found in the limestone's rusticated finish on the lower stories and then rising to a smooth finish at the attic level. Other elements include the smaller scale, round arched windows across the third-floor, the wide eaves and the tower on the building's north side. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.An annex was added to the jail in 1983 to alleviate crowding. It was built between the jail and the courthouse, and connected the two buildings. The jail became too small again, and in 1999 the inmate capacity was capped at 214. In 2004 a bond referendum was passed by county voters to expand the size of the jail. The $29.7 million expansion was opened in 2007. A new entrance pavilion that provides security screening to the entire complex was added at the same time. An annex that was opened on the north side of Davenport to house inmates was closed when the main jail was enlarged.

The buildings are in a section of downtown with several historic structures. Across Ripley Street to the west is the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Freight House, and to the east across Harrison Street is the Dillon Memorial. Up to this point, however, the Mississippi River had never been crossed by a bridge anywhere. That was accomplished by 1856 when the first railroad bridge was built between Davenport and Rock Island, Illinois, and the city’s rail history began. By 1895 several rail lines already passed through Davenport when Frank Blair organized the Davenport, Rock Island and North Western Railway. In five years the company completed its route to Clinton, Iowa and the Crescent Bridge (1899) across the Mississippi between Davenport and Rock Island. The bridge is downstream from the site of the first railroad bridge that crossed the river.

The Davenport Hotel is located in downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is currently an apartment building called The Davenport.HistoryThe construction of the Davenport Hotel in 1907 ushered in the third phase of hotel construction in the city of Davenport. It replaced the Kimball House as Davenport's finest hotel. The other hotels that belong to this era are the Dempsey Hotel (1913), the Hotel Blackhawk (1915) and the Hotel Mississippi in 1931. It was considered the first "modern" hotel in the city, and was touted as one of the finest hotels in the Mississippi River Valley when it opened. The hotel featured such amenities as fireproof construction, elevators, a dining room, and sample rooms for traveling salesmen. The building's interior also featured "steam heat, hot and cold water, telephones and electric lights, heavy brass bedsteads with box springs and hair mattresses, velvet carpets and fancy window draperies, quartered oak and Flemish oak furniture, mahogany combination tables and writing desks and beveled mirrors." It was also the first of Davenport's "tall buildings."The Davenport was built a block away from the new Rock Island Railroad station making it convenient for travelers. However, it was undermined by the Dempsey Hotel, which was built next to the station and provided moderately priced rooms. The more elegant Hotel Blackhawk also resulted in loss of business to the Davenport and the hotel was sold to the Blackhawk Hotel company in 1916.

It is commonly referred to as the LeClaire Park Bandshell.HistoryStarting in 1911 the city of Davenport started two decades of improvement to the riverfront under the leadership of Alfred Mueller, who was the mayor, and William D. Petersen. The Levee Improvement Commission, which is responsible for developing the city’s riverfront, was started the same year. LeClaire Park was extensively improved by the commission between the years 1912 and 1914. Their aim was to maintain a riverfront that balanced commercial, industrial and recreational uses. The music pavilion, named for Petersen, was part of their beautification efforts and built in 1924. Because Davenport had a large and musically inclined German population, the city had band shells located in Fejervary, Vander Veer, and Schuetzen parks as well. This is the only one that remains. Its dedication in 1924 makes this structure, along with the East Park Band Shell in Mason City (1924), the two oldest band shells in Iowa.

The First National Bank Building is an historic building located in downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now known as the US Bank Building, its main tenant.HistoryThe National Banking and Currency Act was passed by Congress and signed into law in 1863. First National Bank in Davenport was the first bank in the country to open under the new act. The bank was headed by Austin Corbin, who had previously been with Macklot and Corbin in Davenport. A $12.60 check written by Henry Hess was the first check in the country to clear the new banking system. The bank suffered some financial difficulties in the 1870s and was re-chartered in 1882. In the 1920s First National Bank merged with Iowa National Bank and maintained the name of the former. After the Bank Holiday in 1933, First National Bank was taken over by Union Savings Bank and Trust. The upper floors of the building remained occupied after the bank’s failure, but the main banking room was not occupied by another bank again until the late 20th century. In the meantime, the main floor had been used for retail. Tenants on the upper floors are mainly professionals such as dentists, medical doctors, attorneys, and insurance agents.ArchitectureThe First National Bank Building is the third building on the same site for the bank. It replaced a building that was destroyed by a fire. The building was designed by Chicago architects Frank A. Childs and William Jones Smith in the Renaissance Revival style. It rises 144ft above the ground and includes nine floors with a steel frame and brick construction. The structure is built on a concrete foundation and is faced with stone. Its form is restrained, but the decoration on the lower level of the building is not. The stylistic details evoke the Renaissance Revival style and combines classical precedents with forms that are associated with the sixteenth century Italian Renaissance. These stylistic elements are combined with the technological advances of the Chicago School.

However, it could not survive those same sentiments that resulted from World War II and the paper folded in 1943.The building itself was built for the Iowa Reform in the heart of the German commercial district on the west side of downtown Davenport that was centered on Washington Square. The building has housed various commercial enterprises since the newspaper folded.

MISSION STATEMENT The Davenport Associated Dads' Club mission is to develop and deliver quality youth sports programs through the involvement of local schools and volunteers dedicated to building character through participation in a fun, family environment based on the Dads' Club philosophy. PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT We will make our game fun for our players, not a glory for ourselves. We will, by our actions and attitudes, practice true sportsmanship, remembering that, by example, we are teaching the young players to win with humility and lose gracefully. We will strive to teach the skills of the game with patience and understanding. We will praise when deserved and encourage, not condemn, when a mistake is made. We will remember that the feelings and welfare of our players are far more important than the outcome of any game. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Dads' Club is a volunteer organization. Without volunteers, we cannot provide the best program possible for your child. Where can you help? School coordinating, league coordinating and coaching. School coordinators are responsible for distributing the forms at their schools, forming the teams, getting volunteer coaches and turning in the registration forms/monies to the Dads' Club office. League coordinators take a division, i.e. 1st grade, 2/3 coed, etc. and ensure that all forms are completed and signed and that registrants have been placed where their form has indicated. League coordinators also help with handing out sportsmanship awards and help at the school coordinator turn-in. What more rewarding opportunity can you have than coaching a group of youngsters. Coaches have such an impact on these young lives. Please, won't you take some time out of your busy schedule to help.....Have an impact! MAKE A DIFFERENCE....
