The New Theater at 45th Street is the collaborative effort of both the New York Music/Theatre Project and the dynamic composition of New York City performance artists who desire quality production at sensible value for everyone. Conveniently located in midtown Manhattan’s theater district, The New Theater at 45th provides a positive alternative to the ever-rising costs of Broadway ticket prices without compromising artistic standards. We are committed to providing a creative performance space for New Yorkers to explore an array of theatrical styles that surround the entertaining, revealing, and sometimes challenging realm of live professional theatre. Our vision is fourfold. First, we strive for diversity in all aspects of performance. Seeking to uphold the highest standards for such by welcoming and encouraging all forms of art - regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, and other perceived boundaries that limit artistic freedom and expression. New York City is the ultimate conflation of culture, beliefs, and community in the world. We strongly promote diversity through our staff, audience, and stage productions. Our doors are open to you. Secondly, we wish to provide various and substantial opportunities for learning about the human experience through the lens of the modern stage. A life-long education through the theatrical process for both adults and children alike. Next, an emphasis on a strong, vibrant arts community. We are dedicated to playing a leadership role in the community by exploring avenues of public awareness, expanding their knowledge of the contribution the arts make to society. And finally, we seek to become a New York City cornerstone for neighborhood theatre. Long-term viability through financial strength and stability as a means to achieve greater artistic freedom. Theatre for New Yorkers, by New Yorkers. The New Theater at 45th Street offers both unique and fully adaptable performance spaces. The stage upstairs holds 55, downstairs, 99. Additional seating can be added to both. The theater is housed in a remodeled firehouse, which further adds to the intimate charm of the community. Contact: Jake C. Off-Broadway Family Theatre will present its inaugural production of C.S. Lewis’ well-loved tale “THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE” with Saturday performances beginning October 22nd at 11 AM at St. Luke’s Theatre, 308 West 46th Street (west of 8th Avenue), NYC. For more information, visit www.narniaoffbroadway.com. In this inventive and highly theatrical adaptation, two actors play eight characters including animals. Through the magic of theatre, we travel to Narnia where the White Witch’s spell makes it eternally winter but never Christmas. But everything changes when four siblings venture through an old wardrobe and enter this land of talking animals, charming fauns, giants and dwarves. Standing shoulder to shoulder with Aslan the Great Lion, the children battle the forces of evil and discover that Love is the deepest magic of all. Dramatized by le Clanché du Rand, the play features Andrew Fortman and Erin Layton playing children, beavers, fauns, wicked witches and mythic lions, all under the direction of Julia Beardsley O’Brien. Set and lighting design is by Josh Iacovelli with costumes and masks by Tom Long. Off-Broadway Family Theatre provides quality theatrical experiences for family audiences by presenting both new and classic plays targeted towards children while still appealing to adults. “THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE” is its inaugural production.
