The Angel Orensanz Center is located at 172 Norfolk Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. It is housed in a Gothic Revival synagogue, built in 1849 for Congregation Ansche Chesed .It is the oldest surviving synagogue building in New York City, and the fourth-oldest surviving synagogue building in the United States. It was the largest synagogue in the United States at the time of its construction, and is one of the few built in Gothic Revival style.The synagogue was built by Reform Congregation Ansche Chesed, a congregation of primarily German Jews that was the third Jewish congregation in New York City. The building was designed by Eisenach -born architect Alexander Saeltzer. It was sold to Congregation Shaari Rachmim in 1873, to The First Hungarian Congregation Ohab Zedek in 1886, and to congregation Sheveth Achim Anshe Slonim in 1921, which used it until 1974. That year, the synagogue was abandoned, and it was later vandalized.
Boasting a new twist on nightlife, GalleryBar is the newest addition to the booming Lower East Side. GalleryBar opens as a gallery by day, exhibiting works from the art world’s emerging and established talents. During the evening, it transitions into a bi-level lounge. Its upstairs gallery lounge can accommodate 150 people while the intimate downstairs living room can host 100 people. Separate bars on each floor make it a perfect choice for private parties. With a special focus on Norway, our scope is international: We invite a wide range of artists from elsewhere to share their work with the New York City audience and also collaborate with overseas organizations in creating opportunities for our artists abroad. Pierogi was founded in 1994 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and relocated to the lower east side of Manhattan in 2016. Pierogi features the work of emerging and mid-career artists in an eclectic range of media—from the conceptual drawings of Mark Lombardi to the multi-media works of Jonathan Schipper, and the dynamic large-scale paintings of Yoon Lee, to the panoramic and filmic drawings of Dawn Clements; as well as curated exhibitions such as the award-winning Dead Tree installation (a recreation of the Robert Smithson work originally shown in Dusseldorf’s Kunsthalle, 1969). The BOILER, Pierogi’s satellite exhibition space opened in March 2009, is a more expansive space that allows us to mount large-scale sculpture, painting, and installation exhibitions. It is a former factory boiler room with 35-foot ceilings where we also hold performances, screenings, and other events. The Flat Files, another important element of Pierogi, house portfolios of original works by 750+ artists. The traveling Flat Files have been exhibited in London, Vienna, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. Early in 2009 Pierogi launched a searchable online version of the Flat Files.

Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space provides exhibition opportunities to hundreds of independent curators and emerging underrepresented artists. Its location inside the Essex Street Market creates a distinct opportunity to directly engage with the local community about contemporary art. Artists Alliance Inc is interested in promoting contemporary artwork in all media, to be shown within a local community setting, though we do not promote community-based art. Through an annual open call, we seek exhibitions featuring the work of emerging and underrepresented contemporary artists and the curators who seek to exhibit these artistsʼ work in a clear and concise context. In addition, we are particularly interested in exhibits that convey relevance to the local community.

In the midst of dozens of art galleries in the Lower East Side in Manhattan, Red Royalty Gallery, situated at Delancey and Allen Street, is something very different. It is a salon-type contemporary art gallery, rooted back in the Art nouveau's eclectic philosophy and the tradition of totality and theatricality: wooden floors, decorated storefront windows, and high chandeliered ceilings. We are pushing for the timely transcension of the widely accepted white cube model for galleries, as we believe that this format has already played its role in the history of art, and is slowly becoming dysfunctional. We represent Princeton-based sculptor and painter Kremena Lefterova whose imaginative colorful porcelain and ceramic sculptures are influenced by the beauty and complexity of Cirque du Soleil's performances and the fantasy world of Hieronymus Bosch's dream-like illustrations. Kremena's paintings and illustrations bridge the gap between the academic essence of the Russian Classical School and the magical qualities of Scandinavian fairytales. Animated yet static, figurative yet allegorical, and classical yet contemporary, Kremena’s multifarious works are unlike anything else currently on the art market. Kremena also works with clients to create in situ sculptures, installations, or fine design solutions for their office, apartment, or house.
Art on A Gallery is located in the heart of the East Village on Avenue A between 2nd and 3rd Streets, which distinguishes it geographically from the many galleries on the Lower East Side below Houston Street.
