A Neighborhood Modern Bistro + ATL's favorite late night kitchen.
Atlanta has a long history of the written word. Margaret Mitchell wrote the great American novel in a small ground floor apartment on Peachtree Street. Joel Chandler Harris re-envisioned a culture’s stories for a new audience in the Uncle Remus tales. As a city, Atlanta continues to be defined by the stories we tell. Now a refreshing story is being told at the intersection of 14th and Peachtree Streets—in Midtown: Article 14. Refined dining is the headline at this hot spot and latest offering from Legacy Restaurant Partners. Whether dining at lunch or dinner, Article 14 is about the experience. It’s a much needed midday break from the office, a cocktail after work or a meal before a night in out Midtown. Regardless of time, Article 14 has a style that is more than just its setting. It is the menu, the staff and the patrons. It’s an exciting new chapter in Atlanta.

Saltwood, located inside the Loews Atlanta Hotel, is Midtown’s newest small-plate-style restaurant. Named for its emphasis on salted, cured meats and classically rustic presentation on wood blocks, this casual eatery features a charcuterie station that serves as the restaurant’s centerpiece. Diners can pull up bar stools to sample house-made and locally sourced items and sip on handcrafted cocktails and local microbrews while watching the restaurant’s charcuterie chef hand-carve meats and assemble charcuterie plates. Executive chef Olivier Gaupin, a native of Orleans, France, borrows both from his European roots and a decade living in the American South, to bring a unique yet refined approach to local ingredients and cooking traditions. The 190-seat Saltwood, which includes the bar, restaurant, 20-seat patio, 125-seat private dining space, and chef’s table, means diners can create their own unique experiences from intimate dinners for two to social gatherings around communal tables. For an authentic taste and feel of the Midtown Atlanta lifestyle, Saltwood is the place to be.

Empire State South is the third restaurant from chef and restauranteur Hugh Acheson. Taking its name from a nearly forgotten nickname for the state, "The Empire State of the South", ESS opened in the late summer of 2010. For its first three years, Chef Ryan Smith led the restaurant to much acclaim, garnering Atlanta Magazine's "Restaurant of the Year" title in 2011. Chef Josh Hopkins took the helm late in 2013, and has added a keen interest in the fresh vegetables of the region--many of which are grown inside the Atlanta city limits. Empire State South also prides itself on a vibrant bar scene, an award-winning wine program, and a first rate coffee counter. The restaurant looks to match the heartfelt character of the traditional cuisine of its region with the fresh influences and ingredients that are now available therein, always hoping to add to the conversation of what exactly it means to be Southern.
