El Consulado General de México en Chicago es una Representación de México en el Exterior que ha servido a la comunidad mexicana y de otras nacionalidades en el Medio Oeste desde hace 130 años. Debido a la gran demanda de servicios y a la falta de espacio en las oficinas de la avenida Michigan, el Consulado estrenó oficinas propias el 17 de febrero del 2004 en el 204 al Sur de Ashland Ave, esquina con Adams. En esta última calle, curiosamente, había sido instalada la primera oficina en 1884, dos años antes de las manifestaciones obreras que dieron lugar al Primero de Mayo como celebración mundial del Día del Trabajo. Chicago ha sido para los mexicanos en Estados Unidos una ciudad clave para introducir diversas iniciativas que posteriormente han sido adoptadas en otras regiones. Un ejemplo de ello es el lanzamiento de la Matrícula Consular de Alta Seguridad y las gestiones para convertirla en una identificación confiable para bancos e instituciones gubernamentales.

The Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police is a non-profit organization that was formed under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on November 17, 1915. On January 7, 1963, the Grand Lodge granted a charter to Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge No. 7, establishing Lodge No. 7 as a subordinate lodge with full power under its jurisdiction for the City of Chicago. The organization was known as The United Chicago Police Association, Lodge No. 7 of the Fraternal Order of Police, governed by President Joseph J. LeFevour and Recording Secretary Richard Lis. The preamble to the original constitution stated in part: “We pledge ourselves to promote the health and welfare of all Chicago Law Enforcement Officers and their immediate families; to raise and maintain the professional standards of the Chicago Law Enforcement Officer; and to represent Chicago Police Officers in affairs relative to the administration of the department.” The pledge set forth a goal, which was to elect a collective bargaining agent. In November 1980, the FOP fulfilled its goal when Chicago Police Officers elected Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge No. 7 as their representation. It was not until August 19, 1981 that the FOP Lodge No. 7 became the collective bargaining agent for the police and the union for 8,202 Chicago Police Officers. Current President Dean Angelo, Sr. was elected in April 2014.
DFSS promotes the independence and well-being of individuals, supports families and strengthens neighborhoods by providing direct assistance and administering resources to a network of community-based organizations, social service providers and institutions. • Children Services: Children Services works to provide a strong developmental foundation for Chicago’s youngest residents through programs including Early Head Start, Head Start, Child Care and the Summer Nutrition Program. • Youth Services: Youth Services serves to support the education and development of young people ages 6 to 24 through a range of out-of-school time and career development programs including the youth WIA program, Mayor Daley’s Youth Ready Chicago Summer Jobs Program and oversight of approximately 19,000 after-school opportunities. • Juvenile Intervention Support Center (JISC): Together with the Chicago Police Department, this office oversees the case management system for the JISC, a pilot diversion program designed to keep youth out of the juvenile justice system and to provide them with supportive services in their communities. • Human Service Delivery: This division manages programs that help people in need gain stability and achieve self-sufficiency. At its six Community Service Centers, the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services offers city residents access to a wide range of resources including from shelter, food and clothing to domestic violence assistance, job training and placement services. Additionally, the City’s Veterans Resource Office helps U.S. veterans and family members navigate the maze of government benefits and civilian resources. • Domestic Violence Services: Victims of domestic violence can access services to help them regain a safe and stable lifestyle. Staff at the City’s Community Service Centers will work with residents to identify immediate needs and refer them to the appropriate supportive services. The City of Chicago Domestic Violence Help Line (1-877-863-6338) is a toll free, confidential, multi-lingual 24-hour clearinghouse for referral assistance for victims of domestic violence. • Homeless Services: Homeless Services is responsible for the implementation of the 10-year Plan to End Homelessness through case management, as well as delivery of prevention, housing and support services. • Emergency Services: Emergency Services is responsible for overseeing the department’s emergency support efforts including administration of the City’s well-being check program; management of the department’s extreme weather services; and the coordination of temporary shelter for displaced residents. This division also oversees the department’s Homelessness Outreach and Prevention (HOP) team. • Workforce Services: This division is responsible for the City’s regional, affiliate and sector workforce centers, employment and training programs for survivors of domestic violence, dislocated workers, seniors and other hard-to-employ target populations; and customized training and placement services for employers, and ex-offender programs. • Programs and Services for Seniors/Area Agency on Aging: This agency provides and supports a wide variety of programs that address the diverse needs and interests of older Chicagoans, from those who are healthy and active, to those who are frail and homebound. This agency also manages the City’s six Regional Senior Centers and 12 Satellite Senior Centers.
