The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Baltimore Branch Office is one of the two Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond branch offices. The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Baltimore Branch is an operational and regional center for Maryland, the metropolitan Washington D.C. area, Northern Virginia, and northeastern West Virginia. The Baltimore branch is part of the Fifth District and has the code E5. It supports Check 21 operations, supplies coin and currency to financial institutions and works to maintain stability in the financial sector throughout the Fifth District and also works with local elected officials and non-profit organizations to support fair housing initiatives throughout the Fifth District. The Baltimore branch was founded in March 1918 and is currently headed by William R. Roberts.Each branch of the Federal Reserve Banks has a board of either seven or five directors, a majority of whom are appointed by the parent Federal Reserve Bank; the others are appointed by the Board of Governors. Branch directors serve staggered three-year terms (two-year terms if the Branch has five directors). One of the members appointed by the Federal Reserve Board is designated annually as chairman of the board of that Branch in a manner prescribed by the parent Federal Reserve Bank. The Baltimore branch currently allows private and educational tours of up to thirty people with reservations. Cell phones and cameras are not permitted inside the building. The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Baltimore Branch Office sponsors the annual Fed Challenge to encourage better understanding of the nation's central bank and the forces influencing economic conditions in the United States and abroad. In 1997, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond- Baltimore Branch won the silver U.S. Senate Productivity and Maryland Quality Award. In 2008, Dorothy Voorhees received the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Baltimore Branch 2008 Excellence Award for outstanding achievement in the study of economics.
Harbor Bank of Maryland opened its doors in September of 1982 with $2.1 million in assets. As of December 31, 2011, Harbor Bank's assets were $241 million. The bank conducts general banking business in seven branch locations and primarily serves the Baltimore, Maryland Metropolitan area.The Bank also has a branch in Riverdale, Prince George’s County, Maryland. The Harbor Bank offers checking, savings, time deposits, credit cards, debit card, commercial real estate, personal, home improvement, automobile, and other installment and term loans. The Bank is also a member of a local and national ATM network. The retail nature of the Bank allows for diversification of depositors and borrowers so it is not dependent upon a single or a few customers. The bank is proud of being the first community bank in the country to have an Investment Subsidiary, Harbor Financial Services. Harbor Bank’s Mortgage Department was the first in the State of Maryland to receive Fannie Mae funding under the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Program.

The 1.2 million-member Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) charity dedicated to building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families. The DAV was founded in 1920 by disabled veterans returning from World War I to represent their unique interests. In 1932, the DAV was congressionally chartered as the official voice of the nation’s wartime disabled veterans. With our brave Americans leaving the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAV’s services and advocacy are as relevant and critical today as in any time in our nation’s history. Annually, the DAV represents more than 200,000 veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. The DAV’s Voluntary Services Program operates a comprehensive network of volunteers who provide veterans free rides to and from VA medical facilities and improve care and morale for sick and disabled veterans. The DAV’s 1.2 million members provide grassroots advocacy and services in communities nationwide. From educating lawmakers and the public about important issues to supporting services and legislation to help disabled veterans — the DAV is there to promote its message of hope to all who have served and sacrificed.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization which serves as Baltimore City’s official arts council, events agency and film office. By providing funding and support to artists, arts programs and organizations across the city, and by producing large-scale events such as Light City, Artscape and the Baltimore Book Festival, BOPA’s goal is to make Baltimore a more vibrant and creative city. The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts manages the Creative Baltimore Fund Grants, Baltimore Mural Program, Public Art, Free Fall Baltimore, PNC Transformative Art Prize, MECU Neighborhood Grant Program, Bright StArts Workshops For Children and other grant opportunities for artists. BOPA coordinates Baltimore's major events including Light City, a festival of light, music and innovation; Artscape, America’s largest free arts festival, Baltimore Book Festival; New Year's Eve and July 4th celebrations at the Inner Harbor; Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar; School 33 Art Center’s Open Studio Tour; and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. As the Baltimore Film Office, BOPA provides service to all productions scouting and filming in Baltimore. The team works with production crews, secures permits, provides logistical support and coordinates with city agencies to secure properties, equipment and personnel. BOPA oversees historic attractions and sites including the Top of the World Observation Level, School 33 Art Center, The Cloisters, and the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower. In addition, BOPA has been called upon to orchestrate or assist with large-scale city events over the past 30+ years. The activities include Star-Spangled Spectacular in 2014, NFL Kick-Off in 2013, Star-Spangled Sailabration in 2012 and the Ravens Super Bowl Victory Parades.
The Kikongo-African roots of Capoeira Angola continued evolving 400 years ago in Brazil to help African men and women secretly pass along treasured oral traditions to their children. The study of Capoeira Angola incorporates martial arts training with a strict philosophy of respect for every man, respect for family and respect for tradition. While students learn rituals and physical movements that look like dance choreography, they are actually "playing" at a competition. This training helps young athletes learn specific dance steps, but also requires that they work constantly to out maneuver their opponent. In the early years when Capoeira training started, the goal was to be proficient at conquering the enemy and escaping forced servitude, or enslavement. Today, 400 years later, the traditional movements are still taught but they are explained in the context of a history lesson that teaches pride and great respect for the enslaved men and women and their rich African heritage. The message today is to rise above anger and apathy to make positive changes in one's life and community. Inter-generational relationships are encouraged as the lessons about survival are passed on from elders to young people. Family life is cherished and children are given confidence to grow and prosper. The training encourages students to do well in school and achieve success in the community by being active, positive influences to everyone they meet. This philosophy of being family oriented is essential to the Capoeiristas, the young student of capoeira.
DECA enhances the co-curricular education of members through a comprehensive learning program that integrates into classroom instruction, applies learning, connects to business and promotes competition. DECA’s activities assist in the development of academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. DECA Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit student organization with more than 200,000 members in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), organized in 1946, is made up of public high schools from each of the 24 school systems. The purpose of the MPSSAA is to promote and direct public high school interscholastic activities in order to assure that those activities contribute toward the entire educational program of the state of Maryland. The MPSSAA currently includes 197 public high schools, with almost 114,000 student-athletes participating in 24 sports. The MPSSAA derives its authority from the Maryland State Department of Education and the 24 local school systems. The goal of the Association is to promote, direct, and regulate interscholastic athletics of the public high schools, as well as ensure a safe and educationally balanced program. The MPSSAA is governed by a Board of Control and Executive Council that is represented by school superintendents, athletic coordinators, principals, athletic directors, and coaches. In addition, there are many standing and tournament committees that administer the 24 State tournaments as well as many other student-related programs.

Our programs provide a wide range of services, from rehabilitation, to assistance for the deaf and blind, to residential and vocational ventures aimed at assimilating our clients into the community. Our clients face various challenges, from schizophrenia to drug addiction to homelessness. They represent the full diversity of our community. We provide services in Maryland, in the community and in the clients homes. A HISTORY OF SERVICE People Encouraging People was founded by businessman/philanthropist Bernard Schapiro in 1979. Working in conjunction with Sinai Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry, Schapiro infused a set of values in PEP that have endured from its humble beginnings as a bargain outlet store to the thriving organization that today serves more than a thousand clients through dozens of programs. While PEP’s growth has been remarkable, the organization still subscribes to Schapiro’s original vision, to identify the untapped resources in individuals and help them to live a fulfilling life. A PROMISING FUTURE Through public partnerships and grants, private contributions and the tireless efforts of PEP’s board, employees and volunteers, PEP continues to reach new milestones and expand its capacity to serve. Our efforts will resonate throughout the community for many years to come. Over 87 percent of the clients employed through PEP Vocational Services have stayed on the job for more than a year. Our work with youth is turning around lives and creating opportunities never thought possible.
