We are a multigenerational, multiethnic Christian community comprised of individuals and families from all walks of life and numerous parts of the world. God has worked mightily in our past, yet we know that the greatest days of His work are still ahead!
First Union Baptist Church was organized March 18, 1944, by Pastor P.S Osborne of Macedonia Baptist Church as moderator and Pastor M.L. Price of Galveston Texas as Acting Secretary. Pastor Nathaniel R. Reason, a man called by God to lead his people was founder and first Pastor. A small store front at 1643 O'Farrell street was selected as the place of worship. The original name chosen was First Baptist Church; however, another church in the city was known by that name. Sister Lola Washington suggested that "Union" be included in the name to make the distinction. The church then became known as First Union Baptist Church. With an original membership of 7 people, First Union grew rapidly. As the Church grew, the members started various projects to raise funds to purchase a new church. The first building fund for the new church was established with $47.50, and with Sister Gussie Twyman (Vann) as its first treasurer. A building was purchased at 2398 Geary Blvd. on December 23rd 1946. As the Church continued to grow and with a 10 year mortgage and a membership of 2000, the mortgage was paid off in 7 years and 7 months. The mortgage was burned on July 1953. Under the leadership of Pastor Reason, First Union grew spiritually, financially and numerically. The Woman Auxillary started a new building fund of $300 and a dream of moving to a more modern and spacious Church with educational classrooms and parking facilities. On June 12 1968, Pastor Nathaniel Reason was called to be with the Lord, before the dream became a reality. Deacon Willie B. Smith held the reigns from June 12 1968 until February 23, 1969 as we prepaed for a new Pastor. During this period, the Church purchased a parsonage. On February 24, 1969, Pastor Henry L. Davis, Sr. was called tp lead our congregation. Because of the Church's numerical growth and emphisis on outreach ministries, we were forced to expand our facilities. Groundbreaking for a new Church was held on Easter Sunday, April 18 1976. On December 19, 1976, Pastor H. L. Davis Sr. lead our congregation to our new edifice at 1001 Webster street. The mortgage was burned in six years in 1985. Construction on new classrooms began. An apartment building was purchased under his leadership, Pastor Davis Sr. ministered to God's people until May 8, 1984, when he was called home to be with the Lord. Again, Deacon Smith took the leadership roll in keeping God's people together. The Church elected Pastor Henry L. Davis Jr. as Pastor on March 18, 1985. From July 2000 until January 20, 2002, Deacon George Booth led our congregation while we searched for a new Pastor. On January 21, 2002 Paator DeWayne A. Byrdsong was elected to become our 4th Pastor and served through December 30, 2009. Again, Deacon George Booth, Board Chairman, took on the roll of leader of our Congregation. As of 2016 Rev. Larry Jetton Jr. is our new elected Pastor.
We emphasize on learning and living the teaching of the Bible, and our outreach ministries focus on bringing Chinese new immigrant families into the church

Jesus said: “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.” Matthew 10:40 St. Mark’s Lutheran Church seeks to be a place where all people encounter the living God and the reconciling Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are an open and affirming community and welcome people of all walks of life who are looking for a spiritual home. St. Mark's Lutheran Church is faithful to the heritage of evangelical catholic worship we have inherited. We seek to harmonize the traditions of the past with ongoing, Spirit-led renewal. We find strength in the ecumenical creeds, calendar, and lectionary. The weekly Eucharist is the foundation of our community: the Gospel, proclaimed from the pulpit and shared at Christ's table, is the lifeblood of our congregation.
The Temple of Set is an organization with one task: to provide an environment in which individuals discover, pursue, and realize their unique purpose and destiny. Our philosophy holds that excellence and creative purpose are rooted in self-awareness, self-knowledge and self-creation. We name the experience of the willed unfolding of this individual potential Xeper. That we pursue this task, and teach this philosophy, reflects our conviction that the individual psyche is the hidden sanctuary of something godlike—something slandered and suppressed by conventional religions that claim its powers for themselves, dismissed by others as unreal, and feared by those who would flee the personal responsibility implied. What brought you to this web site? Perhaps you are seeking data: a scholar of religion, philosophy or the social sciences, a journalist, or some other researcher with an interest in the history and programs of the Temple of Set. If so, you will find this site a good starting point, with links to further informed sources. Perhaps someone you know, or have met on the Internet, claims to be affiliated with the Temple of Set, and you want to know what that's about. This site will reveal to you some elements of Setian philosophy and practice, including our ethical stance. What you find here may or may not appeal—the Temple does not proselytize or recruit. Rather this site is intended to help you distinguish what the Temple of Set is, and what it is not. Finally, you may be here for Initiation. You had some contact with the Temple—through the written word or other media, perhaps an encounter with a Setian—and sensed that there was something important that the Temple of Set could teach you. Perhaps you have already passed through other occult groups, esoteric schools and religions, failing to find what you sought. Yet you did not abandon the search. Good! Do not be hasty in this decision. Look through this web site, paying special attention to the General Information and Admission Policies, the essays written by Setians, and the list of recommended readings. If, after this review, you elect to apply for admission, use the form provided. We look forward to hearing from you. Xeper. Patty A. Hardy IV° High Priestess of Set

Konkōkyō (the Konko Faith) is a belief system characterized by an accepting and non-judgmental view of humanity. It teaches belief in a divine parent (called Tenchi Kane No Kami) who is the life and energy of the universe—indeed IS the universe—as well as a loving parent who wishes only the happiness and well-being of all human beings, the children. “Kami” is the term most frequently used for this entity. A core teaching of Konkōkyō is that Kami and humans exist in a relationship of interdependence or “mutual fulfillment” known as aiyokakeyo: Kami fulfills humanity and humanity fulfills Kami. In this relationship, humans are exhorted to cultivate an attitude of sincere gratitude for Kami’s blessings received daily, both large and small. This principle of aiyokakeyo encompasses the fundamental nature and workings of the universe, which includes the dynamic, synergistic, and loving relationship between Kami and humanity By extension, human beings also exist in relationships of mutual dependence with each other and with the larger social and natural world. They are therefore encouraged to help each other and take care of the world they live in. Other notable features of Konkōkyō include respect for and appreciation of other belief systems, an absence of rigid dogma, and a personalized, customized approach to advising individuals and ministering to believers. Realizing happiness, peace of mind, and divine blessings by living in harmony with Kami, as well as helping others to do so—these are important spiritual goals for a Konko believer.
