The Castle at Park Plaza is a unique special event and conference venue in Boston's Back Bay located on Columbus Avenue and Arlington Street. The building was originally an armory for the First Corps of Cadets, a Massachusetts military organization established in 1741. This designated National Historic Landmark has hosted some of Boston most exclusive events over the years. With 14,642 square feet this expansive one room venue is spacious and versatile, perfect for expositions, conferences, tradeshows, theater productions, galas, receptions and banquets. History and Mission The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts was founded forty-two years ago in the South End of Boston; with a small group of Puerto Rican pioneers who decided to organize an activity, whereby the community could promote a sense of belonging and cultural affirmation within the state. Under the leadership of the late Chico Muñoz, and the commitment of many community leaders, the first festival committee was formed. The event took place in 1967 at the Blackstone Park, with approximately 2,500 people. This initiated the development of the Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts, Inc. Today, this cultural event has turned out to be the state’s largest Hispanic event with over 185,000 attendees during a three-day celebration at Franklin Park, one of Boston’s largest fields. The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, with a statewide membership. The board of directors consists of fifteen members from a broad cross-section of the community; elected every three years by a general assembly of all members as stipulated in the by-laws The organization is one of the most successful and far reaching festivals in the state of Massachusetts. It is by far the largest and best-organized ethnic festival in New England, celebrating its forty-first anniversary this year. It has become one of the premier Puerto Rican celebrations in the nation, surpassed only by New York’s Puerto Rican Parade, New Jersey, Chicago, Ohio and Florida. Attracting people from these same states and providing a community celebration that exhibits the vitality and commitment of Puerto Ricans and Hispanics in general, improving the quality and richness of life in Boston. The organization adheres to and committed to the following principals: To promote a cultural awareness and understanding of the Puerto Rican heritage, including but not limited to, the traditions folklore and other contributions of this community to the United States of America and specially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. To promote and affirm self-sufficiency and responsibility when we teach others the history and cultural values of Puerto Ricans. To foster our citizenship rights to political participation in the mainstream electoral process. To encourage and foster community activism by creating educational and cross-cultural programs that creates multicultural and multiracial dialogues with other ethnic groups residing in Massachusetts. To conduct and encourage educationa,l and community action programs for the benefits of Puerto Rican children. The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts, a non- profit 501 (c) 3 Corporation seeks corporate partners who wish to share in the social and financial rewards of New England’s largest ethnic festival. Sponsorship is a business related activity in which your company reaches more than 300,000 Hispanics from all over the states and Puerto Rico during a three day celebration and a grand parade with over 30,000 spectators in the parade route. Once the parade reaches its destination, Franklin Field at the Franklin Park, parade watchers join the tens of thousands at the park to celebrate the closing of the three days of festivities. The John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center located in Boston was built in 1988 from a design by architects Kallmann, McKinnell & Wood. It replaced the John B. Hynes Memorial Auditorium, also a convention center, built in 1963 during the Massachusetts Turnpike expansion from Route 128 to the Central Artery, which was regarded as "ungainly". The 1988 design "attempted to relate in scale and materials to its Back Bay setting, adopting granite and setbacks... The severe gray interior is reminiscent of an early 20th-century German railroad station". Harvard Model Congress have been using the center for all House committees for its 2011 conference. First Night Boston has used space at the Hynes each New Year's Eve. Harvard Model United Nations has used it for the inauguration ceremonies with thousands of students from all over the world. CollegeFest is a back-to-school college marketing event held yearly at the Hynes with around 15,000 attendees. Berklee College of Music has a yearly jazz festival/competition, drawing in high school jazz bands from both inside and outside of New England.
The Prudential Tower, also known as the Prudential Building or, colloquially, The Pru, is an International Style skyscraper in Boston, Massachusetts. The building, a part of the Prudential Center complex, currently stands as the 2nd-tallest building in Boston, behind the 200 Clarendon building. The Prudential Tower was designed by Charles Luckman and Associates for Prudential Insurance. Completed in 1964, the building is 749ft tall, with 52 floors. It contains 1200000sqft of commercial and retail space. Including its radio mast, the tower stands as the tallest building in Boston and is tied with others as the 77th-tallest in the United States, rising to 907ft in height.A restaurant, the Top of the Hub, occupies the 52nd floor. A 50th-floor observation deck, called the Skywalk Observatory, is currently the highest observation deck in New England open to the public, as the higher observation deck of the John Hancock Tower has been closed since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.HistoryThe Prudential Tower began construction in 1960 with steel erection work by Donovan Steel.
