The floatation tank is a soundproofed, lightless, enclosed tank filled with about 10 inches of water and over 1,000 pounds of epsom salt. This quantity of salt makes the water extremely dense resulting in the ability to float! A lot of research has been conducted to ensure it is physically impossible to sink in this environment. The temperature of the water and air is regulated to what is known as skin receptor neutral. The means that the temperature inside the tank is the same temperature of your skin (93.5 degrees F). The temperature regulation means that after being in the tank for a short period of time you being to lose sense of feeling with the water itself.
To bring it all together, you're laying in water, in complete darkness, can't hear a thing, in a zero gravity environment and after awhile lose your sense of feeling and orientation.
