Smith McGehee Insurance Solutions is an independent insurance broker founded in 2009 in St. Louis, MO. The founder, President, and CEO, Smith McGehee, graduated with a degree in Accounting from the University of Mississippi in 1970. He started in the insurance business with Lawton Byrne Bruner in 1971, where he primarily coordinated multi-national Property & Casualty programs. Smith ultimately became a leading producer and one of the seven partners of LBB. When Marsh & McLennan acquired them in 1986, Smith became the Managing Director of Marsh’s St. Louis office of over 200 professionals, handling about $250,000,000 in premium volume. In 1991, Smith and several others from Marsh, formed Huntleigh McGehee. By 2004, HM had grown to almost 100 professionals handling about $150,000,000 in premium. It was at this time that Smith and the other minority (founding) owners of HM sold the company. In 2009, after divesting the final portion of Smith’s equity in HM, he left and started Smith McGehee Insurance Solutions.
