About Elizabeth Street Cafe Elizabeth Street Café is a neighborhood Vietnamese cafe and French bakery in South Austin opened in December 2011. The little restaurant boasts sunny dining rooms and a shady garden patio and serves fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as takeout. Originally the Stratford Apartments built in 1918, the vintage building's old bank vault is Bess' kitchen, a treasury of great food, today. Where coins and currency were once counted out, carefully selected beers, wines and liquors are served from a stunning pewter bar custom-made in Montbazon. The historic brick columns and arches, iron railings, and old timbers have been carefully preserved and complemented with solid pecan woodwork, custom tile, extraordinary etched glass, antique mirrors and artwork, to create a whimsically intimate setting for any occasion. The 6th Street entry to Bess is a canopied stairway to the Bess Experience, a unique blend of casual elegance, cheeky ease, and European flair mixed with good ol' Southern come'n get it. Bess Bistro’s new executive chef Roman Murphy is taking Bess in a new direction. By focusing the menu on New American cuisine, he is using locally sourced products and a variety of cultural influences. Chef Roman has direct access to the restaurants very own Morsel’s farm, a one-acre spread just outside of the city.
Annies Café & Bar is a modern Brasserie in the heart of downtown Austin. Our selection of single-origins usually includes 5 to 7 sustainable, direct trade coffees. Our espresso is the Espresso Medici Blend by Cuvee. It is sweet and fruity with a chocolate finish. These are general characteristics but depend on the season (ask the barista for more specific descriptions). Preparation is of utmost importance to us. Our espresso machine is a La Marzocco FB 80 (3 group). We pull 1.5-2 oz of espresso at 20 to 30 seconds in 18 gram baskets. Espresso machine maintenance is a high priority, which is why we back flush at noon, evening, and a deep clean at night. This ensures that espresso residue does not build up and taint the product.
