Granite City is the nickname of our hometown of St. Cloud, Minnesota - one of the great granite capitals of the world. Back in the 1880’s, quarrying was hard, thirsty work. For miners of Northern European ancestry, that meant beer. So family breweries sprang up. They know the secrets of making beer to match the flavor of food made from scratch. With prohibition, the breweries all but vanished. But the spirit of Granite City is alive and well. OUR PATENTED BREWING PROCESS: Shortly before we opened our third store, we launched our patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient. This process, conceived and designed by Mr. Burdick, allows us to ship sweet liquid called wort, from our central brewing facility to individual stores. When this liquid reaches the stores, we begin the fermentation process and complete the brewing. We use Fermentus Interruptus at all of our Granite City Food & Brewery® locations.
The best-known restaurant in Detroit history on will re-open Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 after being closed for 21 years. Nico Gatzaros has spent a year restoring the dining room, refurbishing the entrances, and gutting and replacing almost everything else, from the entire kitchen to the storage areas, bathrooms and heating and air-conditioning systems. Leading the kitchen will be executive chef Robert Scherer, 27, a Grosse Pointe Woods native who previously was executive sous chef at Emeril Lagasse's New Orleans Fish House in Las Vegas.

Old St. Mary's Parish is a Catholic faith community serving the downtown Detroit area, the business community, and those living in the region who are attracted to our community of faith. Since 1893, the Holy Spirit Fathers [Spiritans] have faithfully served Old St. Mary's Church. The Spiritan Fathers continue to exercise their rule of Faith by making themselves advocates, supporters, and defenders of the weak and little ones Old St. Mary's is a spritual oasis in Downtown Detroit. Daily Mass at 12:15 attracts the business community, government, court employees, and out of town visitors. The Church is open Monday thru Sunday prior to Mass until 2pm, at which time the outside doors will be locked. Before she gained the title "Old", St. Mary's was known for many years as the "Church of the Grottos." There are three: the grotto of Gethesemane, depicting Christ's agony in the Garden of Olives; the Baptismal Grotto, depicting Christ's Baptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist complete with running water; and the Lourdes Grotto which is a replica of that French shrine.
