Our second restaurant, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, commenced operations in December 2000, and our third restaurant opened to the public November 20, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota. We now have 27 stores operating in 12 different states - and growing! Granite City is an experience a thousand words couldn’t fully describe. But one comes close: fresh. It began with fresh-brewed beer and, happily never stopped. Everything at Granite City is fresh. Each carefully crafted item on our menu is made right in our kitchens - from scratch. The story of Frona Mae begins in rural Orange County, Indiana in January, 1901. You see, one hundred years ago, there were no microwave ovens, processed foods or frozen dinners. In rural Indiana, meals were always home-made, proudly and with only the freshest farm ingredients. Desserts were always extra special treats, created and served with love. They often were turned in to beautiful & tasty works of art. Born Frona Mae Kearby and mother to her three grateful children, Joanne, Carl and Randall, “Grannny” (as I lovingly called her) loved to bake for her family. Growing up I had the pleasure to enjoy many years of cutting boards, flour sifters, rolling pins in anticipation of Granny’s tasty treats…her delicious, moist cakes and her hand-written recipes for Midwestern pies. Today, the tradition lives on at Frona Mae Dessert Café. We bake fresh daily, with Hoosier pride, never using margarine, instead only 100% real butter and other natural ingredients, and we never use artificial trans fats in any of our products. There is always something special baking at Frona Mae Dessert Café. In fact, we’ve dedicated our hearts and souls to making luscious, eclectic desserts with full flavor, texture and color that both excite and tantalize the senses.
