The Regional Dance Group Centeotl of Santa Cruz preserve connection with the cultural traditions of Oaxaca and Mexico in general. Through this program participants may maintain physical fitness, live with respect for self and others in a new country while developing and maintaining healthy attitudes and relationships, and achieve academic in the United States. One of the annual shows presented by Centeotl Grupo de Danza y Bailes where students performed what they have learned through the whole year is "Navidad en Santa Cruz." 1. Students will participate in physical exercise for 14 hours each week; to discourage compliancy and maintain physical health. Based out of the Santa Cruz City School District , academic success will be monitored and support will be sought for students who are in need of improving grades. 2. Students will benefit academically, physically and emotionally by being connected to a group of healthy peers and older role models. 3. Grounded in the following philosophy, we firmly believe that we are helping to form community members who will be proud of our race and respectful of all people: A town, a family, or a person without a past is like a tree without roots. It is without vitality, fragile, and can be blow down by any wind that comes along. Knowing and deeply understanding where one comes from is fundamental in order for us to overcome present and future hardships. This is “To be deeply rootetd,” strong and sure of all that we have been, proud of who we are now, and confident as we move toward the future.
Grey Bears Brown Bag Program distributes fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy staples to 4,500 Santa Cruz County seniors each week. We operate two recycling centers (including e-waste), a thrift store and computer electronics store, offer weekly classes, and present three major annual events attended by 3,500 seniors. The Day Worker Center of Santa Cruz County is a component of the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing services to promote economic stability since 1965. The Center was established by a diverse group of community stakeholders including day workers, leaders from churches, labor organizations, non-profit organizations, and the community, to provide job-matching services for hundreds of local homeowners and businesses annually.

What We Do: The Santa Cruz Bicycle Exchange takes donated bikes, repairs and tunes them up to run like new, and donates them to organizations that serve people in need. We keep used but perfectly functional bikes out of the landfill and give people who need transportation a clean, low cost, healthy alternative. How We Do It: The bikes we repair come from people’s garages and sideyards, the bikes they’re no longer using. They generously donate these bikes so that someone else can make use of them. Volunteers do all the repair work. They fully inspect each bike to know what needs repair or adjustment, using a method honed over 20 years with thousands of volunteers of all experience levels. This ensures that every bike completed is safe and fully functional. The Santa Cruz Bicycle Exchange has professional bike tools and the parts needed to finish any repairs or adjustments. We outfitted a shop in Live Oak for bike repair. Workdays are the first and third Saturdays of each month so that the largest number of volunteers can participate. You can participate too! Most of our volunteers have little or no bike repair experience. The system works because some volunteers have extensive bike repair experience, like they worked repairing bikes in a bike shop, and they can help you through the process if needed. When the bikes are finished they are donated to local social services organizations that serve those in need, and those organizations distribute the bikes to their clients. We choose the organizations based on their clients: working homeless and low income take priority because of their urgent need for quick, low cost transportation. We also prioritize low income children whose parents cannot afford a bike, since we all remember the joy and freedom a bike gives a child. How the Money Works: The Santa Cruz Bicycle Exchange is a 100% volunteer organization, no one is paid for any work they do. We’re a non-profit (501(c)(3) for that small number of tax code geeks out there), so any donation you make - bikes, bike parts, money - is tax deductible. To pay the rent and buy parts we sell a fraction of the bikes we repair, just enough to cover our costs. The goal is to donate as many bikes as it is possible for our volunteers to fix.
