You can come meet him at our store, but remember he still just speaks Italian… FILIPPO Filippo, a graduate of Economics Law at Bocconi University, has had a passion for the American Dream since childhood. He spent his summers in the US, taking english classes at UCLA and Berry University in Miami, falling in love with this amazing country. He would travel to the USA whenever he could, but he desired a permanent move. Filippo has always pursued excellence, and his love of cooking led him to seek out the best products. This is how he discovered the Buosi family who stood out for their professionalism and for the quality of their products. In particular, he was surprised by the delicacy of their sorbets and gelato, a real explosion of taste and freshness. Thus he learned the art of ice cream according to the italian tradition, and started his adventure in the New World.

Originally built in 1923, our restaurant was once the site of Miami’s Fire Station No. 4, built in the popular Mediterranean Revival style of the era at that time. The Architect, H. Hasting Mundy, built this classic design with a two-story hipped roof, arcaded porch, stucco walls, and unique balconies. This whimsical building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in the heart of Brickell’s Financial District, our restaurant, which opened October of 2007, offers a unique selection of International fusion cuisine. Dolores has a rooftop dining terrace adorned with plush couches, a panoramic view of the Miami skyline and an indoor dining area with a trendy white décor, candles and beautiful flower arrangements. The downstairs area, referred to as “Lolita,” hosts a café delicatessen and an executive lunch on weekdays, then transforming into a trendy night lounge complete with VIP areas and International music. The ancient meaning for the word Hannya is “wisdom”. Some believe the name Hannya comes from Hannya-Bo, an artist monk who perfected the way the Hannya mask looks used in traditional Japanese theater. The most renowned character, Hannya, is actually not a devil or demon but a passionate jealous woman. As the ancient folklore tells, she was once a beautiful woman whose father operated a harbor in old Japan. She had fallen in love with a priest who had arrived but he was unable to return her love. Her unrequited love causes her to turn into a monster who expresses the fury of a woman overwhelmed with jealousy and anger. Nowadays, one can see the Hannya mask hung over many establishments in Japan to ward off evil and protect all within. So please relax, enjoy, and allow our skillful chefs with their many years of wisdom in the culinary arts and their pursuit of perfection, as Hannya-Bo did many many years ago, dazzle you with their creation of an unforgettable dining experience!
Konnichiwa... My father, Rocky Aoki, defined Japanese Cuisine in the United States when he founded the best-known Japanese restaurant in the world- Benihana. I literally grew up in the restaurant industry and quickly began to appreciate the importance of hospitality, fresh ingredients and attention to detail. From my earliest memories, I began to imagine how I could build on the tradition of my father in a way that is equally exciting. I opened our first Doraku restaurant in South Beach, Florida, to capture the flavors of Latin Cuisine with the sushi tradition of my native Japan; one that combines traditional Japanese cooking with innovative South American and Pan Asian flavors. We encourage the Japanese culture of sharing - our dishes are served to you "family style." By doing this you will have the opportunity to experience all the unique flavors we offer. At Doraku we hand select the freshest fish from both local and global markets. The fish is then packed on ice and flown in daily to our restaurants. Our master chefs then use imaginative techniques to draw out the distinct flavors of the fish through sauces that have been passed down through generations. Since no meal would be complete without sake, Doraku has one of the most extensive sake menus in the United States. Each year we travel to Japan to hand-select new varieties of artisanal sake (known in Japanese as Jizake) from local microbreweries to fill Doraku's world famous selection.
