In 1914, The Church of the Living God CWFF Temple #29 started in a tent on Eager Road in Richmond Heights, MO. Shortly after holding services in the home of the late Brother and Sister James Eddings, the Lord blessed this body of faithful believers with an opportunity to rent a small building from the late Rev. Edward & Mary Taylor at 8021 Dale Avenue. On March 10, 1920, the members of Temple #29 purchased the building (once used as a classroom for children of color) from the Taylors and named it The Church of the Living God, Temple #29. In 1946, the building was totally destroyed by fire, but within a couple of years, with the help of the late leader, Rev J.C. Hopkins and many friends, the congregation was able to rebuild. In 1972, under the leadership of the late Overseer J.A. Mosely, the church was remodeled and rededicated to the glory of God. For several years, Temple #29 was not only used as a classroom for children of Lincoln School, but a meeting place for national black civil rights organizations, black community social activities, the black community development workers for equal rights and for groups of blacks who peacefully demonstrated for the rights of blacks to integrate the Maplewood/Richmond Heights School District, the Maplewood swimming pool, the Richmond Heights Police and Fire Department. In 1997, Temple #29 had to relocate directly across the street to this location (8016 Dale Ave.) This was due to community redevelopment. On this faithful journey, we had the following leaders; Elder James Taylor, Elder E.L. Tilford, Elder Smith, Elder Tally, Bishop E.T. Webb, Elder G.W. Wade, Bishop W.D. Starnes, Elder E.L. Pruitt, Elder E. Shelton, Elder Humphries, Elder J.C. Hopkins, Overseer J.A. Mosely, Overseer P.A. Pittman, Elder Gerald Washington, Overseer S.E. Shannon, Bishop L.H. Dixon, Elder J.E Shelton, Elder C. Hines, Elder G. Williams, Overseer E. Tait, Vice Chief Leroy Smith, Elder S. Boone and Elder Vincent Donnell who is currently serving in this position. We have survived these many years because Temple #29 is founded on a solid rock. That rock is Jesus Christ.

• We believe that only the sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired, and therefore inerrant, Word of God. It is the final authority for all we believe and how we are to live. • We believe that the one, true God exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these, being one God, are equal in deity, power and glory. • We believe that Adam was created in the image of God, righteous and without sin. Because of his disobedience, we are born subject to both imputed and inherent sin, and are by nature and choice the children of wrath, justly condemned in the sight of God. We are unable to save ourselves or do anything of ourselves to be accepted by God. It is only through Christ’s death on the cross that we are saved and accepted by God. • We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, that He was conceived and born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and offered Himself as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners. By the blood of His cross, he obtained for us eternal redemption, the forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting. He was raised bodily on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father, there to make intercession for the saints. • We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. No ordinance, ritual, work, or any other activity on the part of man is required in order to be saved. This saving grace of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, also sanctifies us by enabling us to do what is pleasing in God’s sight in order that we might be progressively conformed to the image of Christ. • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit, in whom also we are sealed for the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit regenerates, forever indwells, and equips the Christian for godly living and service. Subsequent to conversion, the Spirit desires to fill, empower, and anoint believers for ministry and witness. We also believe that signs and wonders, as well as all the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament, are operative today to empower and edify the church to fulfill its calling and mission.

At Clayton Community Church we are committed to spreading the good news that God has come to save us, and His name is Jesus. Trusting in the sufficiency of His death and resurrection to pay from our wrongdoing is the only way to have eternal life, a relationship with God––sealed in heaven forever. It is our hope and prayer that at Clayton Community Church people will be: -told they are welcome in God’s family and in our church, -taught God’s word, and -trained to use their spiritual gifts to build God’s kingdom! We have not attained these goals but we... “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:24 Since we began in the courtesy room of a bank in Clayton in September of 1973, we have been a “come as you are” church. In fact, Jesus’ invitation to all of us is to come as we are. While membership is valued and meaningful, we are happy for you to attend as often and as long as you like. We rejoice to have both members and regulars. May the Lord bless your presence with us. In other words, you really are welcome! So relax and enjoy the fellowship of the saints–-the fellowship of believers.
