The Paramount Theatre is a concert venue in Denver, Colorado, located on Glenarm Place, near Denver's famous 16th Street Mall. The venue has a seating capacity of 1,870, but is a popular destination for large acts looking for a smaller concert setting. With spelling as Paramount Theater, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.HistoryThe Paramount opened in 1930 as a movie theatre, part of the Paramount-Publix Theatre Circuit, the exhibition arm of Paramount Pictures. The theatre itself was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Rapp and Rapp, with decorations by designer Vincent Mondo, murals by Louis Grell of Chicago. The original main entry to the theatre was at 519 16th Street, where an entrance lobby was cut through an existing commercial and office building. The three story office and commercial building featuring what was then the theatre's secondary entrance on Glenarm Place, now the main entrance, was designed by the local architect Temple H. Buell. Buell's design is a modernized, art deco interpretation of the Gothic style, executed largely in cast concrete and white terra cotta. For several decades the Paramount enjoyed success as one of the premier movie houses in the Rocky Mountain region. Then, like other large movie theatres, its patronage declined as population and commerce dispersed into new suburban areas. The venue has survived and evolved, and now plays host to numerous concert and performance acts. The theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and the city of Denver recognized it as a historic landmark in 1988. Eight years later, Sinbad performed his HBO comedy special "Son of a Preacher Man" here.

The Denver Mint is a branch of the United States Mint that struck its first coins on February 1, 1906. The mint is still operating and producing coins for circulation, as well as mint sets and commemorative coins. Coins produced at the Denver Mint bear a D mint mark (not to be confused with the mark of the Dahlonega Mint). The Denver Mint is the single largest producer of coins in the world.HistoryClark, Gruber & Co.The predecessors of the Denver Mint were the men of Clark, Gruber and Company. During the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, they coined gold dust brought from the gold fields by the miners. In 1858, Austin M. Clark, Milton E. Clark and Emanuel Henry Gruber founded a brokerage firm in Leavenworth, Kansas, and then established an office in Denver at the beginning of the Colorado Gold Rush. Desiring to save on shipping and insurance costs associated with shipping gold back east, the firm opened a private mint. On 25 July 1860, the mint opened in a two story brick building on the corner of Market and 16th Streets, minting $10 gold pieces at the rate of "fifteen or twenty coins a minute". "On the face is a representation of the peak, its base surrounded by a forest of timber and 'Pikes Peak Gold' encircling the summit. Immediately under its base is the word 'Denver', and beneath it 'Ten D.'. On the reverse is the American Eagle encircled by the name of the firm 'Clark, Gruber & Co.', and beneath the date, '1860'.A $20 gold coin was added, "the weight will be greater, but the value the same as the United States coin of like denomination". A $5 and a $2.5 gold coin were added, with production reaching $18,000 per week. On the front was the "head of the Goddess of Liberty surrounded by thirteen stars, with 'Clark & Company' in the tiara. "Pikes's Peak Gold, Denver" was on the other side, with "5D." or "2 1/2 D."

Located steps from the 16th Street Mall and the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the restaurant’s sunny front windows look out onto busy Curtis Street. The décor will reflect Baur’s enduring elegance, taking guests back in time. Old, decorative tile floors are being exposed and an original chandelier still twinkles. Spira even tracked down a large, ornate cabinet from the candy shop at a local yoga studio. With the Baur’s legacy in mind, Spira began the hunt for a tenant who could connect Baur’s past with modern sensibilities–and is thrilled about opening a restaurant with a historic name. Enter Dory Ford, the proprietor of Baur’s, Est. 1872. A successful chef, restaurateur and businessman from California’s Central Coast, Ford focuses on sustainability and seasonality in his food for AQUA TERRA Culinary. Expect the menu for Baur’s, Est. 1872, crafted along with executive chef Robert Grant, to center on timeless classics. New seating in the restaurant will largely be movable, accommodating various configurations for music performances. The M/A/S music program aims to give a stage to smaller ensembles in genres that often lack exposure: chamber music, jazz, solo piano and more. Two performance rooms can host CD release parties, ticketed performances and private events. One of the rooms is gracefully separated from the larger restaurant space with stately French doors. Inside, the room’s high ceiling creates gorgeous acoustics for intimate music performances. Ample seating options and audio/video capabilities make the room a perfect place for meetings, luncheons, and gatherings of all kinds. http://www.baursmagic.com http://www.twitter.com/baursmagic http://www.facebook.com/BaursListeningLounge

The artwork on view at the American Museum of Western Art represents a cross section of paintings that survey the art of the American West from the early 19th century through the age of industrialization. During the relatively short period of history illustrated by this collection, the West was transformed from Indian territory unknown to most inhabitants of the eastern United States into a settled region. Within only 90 years after the Louisiana Purchase, the “Old West” of Indian buffalo hunters, mountain men, pioneers, gold-seekers, and open-range cowboys had passed into history. Prior to its installation in the Navarre building in 1999, selections from The Anschutz Collection were widely exhibited throughout the United States and were also shown in Canada (Calgary), in Europe (Helsinki, Brussels, Munich, London, Paris, and Vienna), in the People’s Republic of China (Beijing and Shanghai), and in the former Soviet Union (Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tbilisi, and Leningrad). In addition to extensive exhibitions across the United States and abroad, 110 paintings from the Collection were exhibited at the Denver Art Museum in 2000 under the title “Painters and the American West”. While paintings from The Anschutz Collection have on occasion been loaned to other institutions for exhibition, the Collection remained private and unavailable for public viewing until 2010 when the American Museum of Western Art was founded as its permanent home. The Anschutz Collection surveys the history of the development of American Art as it pertains to the West and provides examples from all of the schools that contributed to that development.

I recently spent a rainy night at the British Bulldog and within seconds of walking through the door, I realized I should have been hanging here for years. The Bulldog is an honest pub with character and grit, so near to your soul-sucking downtown job that you might walk past it to get to your parking lot. You walk in, see the Fullers ESB on the hand engine, and you know you are in that rare place in Denver where you can get the fine beers poured right, at a proper temperature. And always a great beer special. If the words Arsenal, Tottenham or Blackburn mean anything to you, the Bulldog is the place you need to be. They open at 7:00am so you can catch your favorite team live from across the pond. (If you don’t know what any of this means, skip to the next paragraph) This is English Premier League heaven, but also soccer and rugby of every stripe. If you’re a fan or a player of the Beautiful Game, you’ll be in good company at the British Bulldog. Enough said. When you party in London or any northern European city, you don’t go to 7-11 afterwards and eat a hotdog. You get your jones fixed by having spicy, crazy-good Middle Eastern or Indian food. (7 Heinekens and 2 Spacecakes into my first night in Amsterdam in the late-1980s, I was introduced to this fine culinary tradition. No joke, that Shawarma may have saved my life – and it certainly kept me out of jail.) The Bulldog knows all about it. I’m talking Fried Pickles. Mac & Cheese wedges with spicy mustard. A Chicken Masala that is so good and perfectly seasoned. And Punjabi hot wings that are a little slice of Pakistan. Not to mention British pub staples and burgers too obvious to list – all great here. The next time some doofus suggests going for drinks after work at some pink or purple place on 16th Street, do everyone a favor and tell them you’ve got a better plan. You’re welcome. Neighborhoods served: Downtown Denver, Curtis Park, Five Points, Lodo, Arapahoe Square
