Now in its fifth year, OC-centric: Orange County’s New Play Festival is a collaboration involving actors and directors from the various Southern California theatre scenes and dramatists who call Orange County home. Fundamentally, the festival celebrates new works for the theatre and the voices of OC playwrights. It has become a destination event for the local theatre scene, with favorable publicity and reviews from the OC WEEKLY, Examiner.com and other media outlets. Chapman University (and its College of Performing Arts and Theatre Department) host OC-centric annually. OC-centric is not part of the university’s annual theatre season; it is a summer festival that is marketed and promoted to the greater Southern California community. Since the festival’s inception, we have produced new work from a variety of up-and-coming playwrights who have been staged around the country, including Erica Bennett, Megan Breen, Julie Tosh, Abbe Levine, Joni Ravenna, John Lane, Andrea Sloan Pink and Eric Eberwein, Each year, we support, affirm and introduce the works of local playwrights through full productions.

Orange Plaza Rotary (formed as Orange Sunrise Rotary) met at breakfast for its first 20 years. One day in 2006, we looked around and saw that we had many young members who were raising small children. Five babies were born into our "family of Rotary" in five years. For these young members, it was tough to get up and get the kids ready for school and then get to a breakfast Rotary meeting. So we switched it up. Now our members come to our meeting right after work, have some refreshments, hang with friends and hear an interesting program. At 6:30 we are out the door, headed home for dinner with our families. But we'll keep doing what we do, serving our community and working for world peace. After all, "It's Always Sunrise Somewhere".

Here's how you can help: We need people to help out on Saturdays. It’s only a 2 hour commitment and you’re done by 9:30 am so you still have plenty of time left in your day. Check in at Walker Hall Kitchen (on Almond St. behind the sanctuary) at 7am. That morning you can help the team: make sandwiches • pack food boxes and bags • sort clothes donations • pray with people • or distribute food and clothes to families or the homeless. There are other ways you can get involved even if you can’t be there on Saturday. Food and clothing donations are always needed. Check the lists below and bring your donations to the church office during the week or drop them off at the kitchen on Saturday morning. We also need people that can help shop for food during the week. Drivers are needed who can pick up food donations from local grocery stores. Monetary donations are always a great help too - just write Food Pantry on the memo line of your check made out to St.John’s. Join us in helping people to see, believe and receive JESUS - and serve Him with their lives.
