The Flight Deck is a collaborative arts space and performance venue in Downtown Oakland, where artists of all kinds and ages can work, play, collaborate, learn and thrive. The Flight Deck will feature a lobby/gallery, a black box theater, a rehearsal studio, and a co-working office for arts organizations and individuals. With the energy of Art Murmur and a vibrant food, art, music and dance scene, Oakland is ripe for a shared, multidisciplinary, affordable performance venue. The Flight Deck will host performances of all types, gallery shows, rehearsals, classes for youth and adults, and a membership program. It will provide a home for the arts in the East Bay, contributing to making Oakland a destination for artists and audiences from all over the region. We plan to invest in the neighborhood we inhabit by building partnerships with local businesses, organizations, schools and city government. The Flight Deck is a project of Ragged Wing Ensemble, a physical, ensemble theater company that has been nomadically producing original work in the East Bay since 2004. Our company runs on principles of collaboration, trust and mutual respect, valuing each individual and supporting strong leadership. We believe that the practice of true ensemble (collaborative art-making) is a radical act, having positive social repercussions beyond the rehearsal room, and we aim to bring this ethic into the cultivation of community at our new space. Each individual or organizational member will become part of a vibrant community, with a voice in governance and opportunities for connections and collaborations with other artists and groups. We hope you’ll join us in co-creating the Flight Deck.

Exhibiting a cross section of 2D and 3D works of art in a unique and inviting gallery space. Vessel Gallery supports and showcases a range of works, all of which are fully developed and realized in material and expression. Tertulia Coffee and Sanchez Contemporary art gallery is now open in the Uptown District in Oakland at 1951 Telegraph Avenue, right at the corner of 20th and Telegraph, directly across the street from the old Capwell's building and future headquarters of Uber. We are partnering with Stumptown Coffee Roasters out of Portland and our coffee bar features a commercial art gallery that showcases some of our favorite Latino artists. Having grown up in Oakland, this is a dream come true for me. In case you're wondering about the name Tertulia...it's a Spanish word that means a gathering of confidants, who share poetic musings, discuss current affairs, share art and songs while enjoying savory treats.

A place for artisans, theorists, creative entrepreneurs, organizers, and students, Omi Gallery is an interactive space to the create and nourish partnerships between artists, businesses, institutions, and the public. Omi Gallery presents new and traveling visual, sound, and performance works by our Impact Hub Members, emerging and established artists, and concept-driven shared exhibitions in collaboration with other cultural institutions. Omi Gallery programming includes special and ongoing events, performances, and exhibitions that highlight the intersections of social justice and placemaking by featuring artists who define and transcend traditional models of artmaking and creative practice. Gallery Director, Ashara Ekundayo is also the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at Impact Hub Oakland.

After our doors closed in 2014, MOCO has been silent until now. Although we don't know what shape we will take, we want to keep our spirit and vision alive. Founded in 2009 in a Victorian storefront in Temescal, SLATE contemporary is now located in the heart of Oakland's Uptown gallery district, on 25th street. SLATE curates themed group exhibitions that run for 6 weeks each. The gallery features work by a core stable of Bay Area emerging and mid-career painters and photographers, but brings in artists working in other media and artists from other cities on occasion. We favor art that has a strong formal aspect and an intellectual component. Sanchez Contemporary was born out of our love for the arts and artists. Our goal is to support the many Bay Area Chican@/Latin@ artists and offer a space where they can exhibit their art in a gallery setting and share their talent and creativity with the community.
