The Kilachand Honors College is a university-wide community of faculty and students dedicated to preserving, renewing, and rethinking classic ideals of liberal education: love of learning, intellectual curiosity, self-discovery, empathy, clarity of thought and expression. It rests on three pillars: an integrated, four-year curriculum; an extensive series of co-curricular events that include site-visits to leading cultural institutions as well as talks and readings by leading figures in the arts, sciences, and professions; and, finally, a “living and learning” community that offers students the personal atmosphere of a small liberal college and fosters responsibility and citizenship.
Since its founding in the fall of 1990, The Education House has been home to hundreds of undergraduate Boston University students. The house itself is a traditional “brownstone” style residence located on scenic Bay State Road in Boston’s historical Back Bay neighborhood. Residents will find the house equipped with a built in washer and dryer, a comfortable common room located on the first floor, and even a piano. Generally, however, students choose to live in The Education House not for its amenities, but for its comforting and diverse atmosphere. The house is currently home to 25 students ranging from seniors to freshmen and hailing from countries all over the world.

The Boston University Marine Program provides a rigorous, interdisciplinary education in marine science to undergraduate and graduate students. Our curriculum trains students in all aspects of marine science - biological, chemical, geological, and physical. While the typical science curriculum teaches undergraduates about science, BUMP teaches students how to be scientists. We accomplish this by requiring all majors to complete the Marine Semester, an intellectually demanding sequence of four consecutive research-based courses. These often-transformative experiences immerse students in faculty research, expose them to pressing issues in marine science, and give them tangible skills for the next stage of their careers. We strive to prepare BUMP graduates for top jobs in marine science and for positions in elite graduate programs. More broadly, we aim to increase marine literacy and contribute to the worldwide effort to preserve and protect threatened marine ecosystems and sustainably manage critical marine resources.
