Since opening in 1970, The O'Shaughnessy has been a unique spot in the cultural landscape of the Twin Cities. During the first 15 years of operation the hall was filled with classical, orchestral, and modern music. After the construction of the Ordway Music Theatre in St. Paul, and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, The O'Shaughnessy established itself as a venue for regional and local dance community organizations such as CAAM Chinese Dance, The James Sewell Ballet, TU Dance, Katha Dance, Ballet Minnesota, Out on a Limb and countless others. In addition, The O'Shaughnessy regularly hosts popular concerts. The list of performers is long including kd lang, Elvis Costello, Jewel, and Brandie Carlile. Famous speakers have included Dr. Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Madeleine Albright. Comedians Jay Leno and a young Steve Martin have performed, as well as Broadway stars Lily Tomlin, Joel Gray, and Ben Vereen. The O'Shaughnessy is supported, in part, by the "Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment" & the Minnesota State Arts Board, Wells Fargo, Arts Midwest, The Boss Foundation, NEFA and VSA Arts.

“Nature always wears the colors of the spirit”, wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson long ago. This sentiment is still relevant and is echoed by Marian S Adcock in her intricately detailed and richly colored depictions of the enchanting characteristics of her botanical subjects. Inspired by the beauty of nature, Marian continues the ancient tradition of combining scientifically accurate depictions of plant life with artistic acumen to tease out the wondrous, enchanting characteristics of her botanical subjects. Marian’s same sensitivity for scientifically accurate detail is also found in her charming, curiously realistic wild life and pet portraits. Artistic Achievements Since becoming a botanical artist in her years of retirement, Marian’s artwork has become widely recognized for how she uniquely merges the transcendent mysticism of pure color with the forces of nature, a connection that highlights the beauty, tranquility and excitement of nature. Her artwork can be seen in a variety of art galleries, art exhibitions and art festivals throughout the United States. Recently she was selected by the Amsterdam Whitney International Fine Arts Gallery’s (Chelsea, New York, NY) curatorial committee to not only be a highlighted artist in their May 2012 exhibition but was selected to become a member of their prestigious “Family of Artists”. In the Saint Paul and Minneapolis area of Minnesota where Marian lives, her artwork has been in juried shows at local art galleries, including the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, the Bloomington Center for the Arts, the Vine Arts Gallery, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Lakeville Center for the Arts , Hudson, WI, Phipps Center for the Arts, Hudson, WI. and the Edina Art Center. She has received a variety of top artistic achievements including “Best of Show” for all of her artwork on display at the juried 2012 Highland Art Festival in Saint Paul, Minnesota and “Best of Show” 2010 for “Tulip in Vase” at the juried Minneapolis Episcopal Homes Art Show. She also was selected and received the “Favorite Artist Award” by visitors at the 2010 juried Highland Art Festival, Saint Paul, MN and was the “Featured Artist” 2010 in the Highland Villager publication, Saint Paul. Nationally, her artwork has been in juried shows in California, Texas and New York. Her “Bright Fall Maple Leaf” received second prize at the National Women’s Juried Exhibition, SUNY Impact Artist’s Gallery, Buffalo, New York. Marian’s artwork was also published in the International Contemporary Artists, Vol. 11, 2011, ICA Publishing, New York.
