Now in its 32nd year, Miami Today has become the newspaper for Miami-Dade County’s business establishment and the trusted voice and source for business information locally. Miami Today is the largest circulated mainstream publication after our daily paper. An award winning pubication, we consistently receive honors from the National Newspaper Association and the Florida Press Association. Miami Today has the finger on the pulse of the community, reporting first on topics readers cannot find anywhere else. Miami Today is one of the few local publications that is audited and surveyed. Circulation has been BPA audited for over 20 years and we are independently reader surveyed every two years. No publication in South Florida has the demographics and credentials to support those figures except Miami Today. Our readers are a well-educated, high-earning audience who are the movers and shakers of Miami. We play an important role in this community, putting into perspective where Miami is going. People say there is more relevant information that affects the community in Miami Today’s weekly newspaper than the whole week of the daily paper.
Project 79 was a Television Production School done in late 1979 and it ran for 4 years. Under the Youth Co-Op banner...Project gave underprivelge youth mostly hispanics the chance to learn a career in televsison broadcasting as well as getting payed a minimum wage salary which was $3.10 at that time to learn. Project 79 ended up providing not only a carrer to many of us but also a chance at a world education working not only for the local televsion stattions in Miami FL but also for all the national broadcast networks as well. Project 79 came under the Carter Administration to help underprivelged youths learn a technical skill and it succeeded more then it was expecteded. High school kids would study Mond thru Fri and then on Thursday evening we would all go to the Linsdsey Hopkins Building were the local PBS station CH. 17 was located and still is. And we would direct, do camera, floor managed, light, and even edit. Three programs in spanish that was done with the coopporation of both the Project and the PBS Station. Those programs were of a talk show format, and they were MAPAS, FORO 17, and Behind the Badge with the Metro Dade PR officer. We would also do cameras during the summer during the school board meetings as well. Project 79 served as an inspiration of what people can do if they really try and what young students can achieve given the proper education and motivation.
