HackMIT is MIT’s headline hackathon, with over 1000 undergraduate attendees from around the globe. Over a 24-hour period from September 17th to 18th, hackers collaborate and experiment on software and hardware projects. This is the weekend to meet other enthusiastic hackers, push your boundaries, and realize the projects of your dreams!
The Taste of Cambridge transforms University Park Common and Sidney Street into a Lush Haven for Gastronomical Exploration and Gustatory Indulgences of the highest order! Each year foodies descend upon the Taste of Cambridge to sample the delicious, creative, healthy and award-winning cuisine found in every square inch that comprises our fine and notable food-loving City! Our event is one of the great food sampling experiences in the region featuring 100+ local restaurants and local specialty butcher, cheese, honey, wine, beer, specialty drinks and coffee purveyors. Feel good for doing a great amount of good by buying a ticket to this benefit event and enjoy eat great foods in our gorgeous landscaped courtyard, featuring café seating, beer and wine gardens, celebrity DJ’s, live bands, and an opportunity to meet the non-profits who benefit directly from this exciting event. Each “Adult” ticket to the Taste of Cambridge includes four glasses of beer or wine from our beer gardens featuring Amstel, Harpoon, John Harvard’s Brew House, and a variety of other specially chosen beers and wines. The Taste of Cambridge (TOC), founded by the Cambridge License Advisory Board (CLAB), is produced by a dedicated CLAB volunteers. CLAB works year-round to prevent underage drinking and to educate and support liquor license holders in their efforts to prohibit sales to minors. The TOC, in addition to being an extraordinary gastronomic experience is also a charitable event! Our participating restaurants, sponsors, and volunteers present the best “Taste of” event to provide financial support to our beneficiaries!

Wheelock Family Theatre is a theatre with a social mission; to inspire artists, educate young people, and entertain all families with the transformative power of live performance.
During the 2011-2012 school year, Jumpstart at Wheelock will engage 75 college students as “Corps members” for a school year of national service that can transform their lives as well as the children they serve. Our partner preschools are located in the neighborhoods of Dorchester and Roxbury, neighborhoods that surround our university here in Boston, MA. Twice weekly, throughout the school year, teams enter their partner classrooms to conduct Jumpstart session. Each Corps member on the team works with 2-3 specific children. In addition, Corps members spend extra time in the classroom each week acting as assistants to the teachers, allowing them to build close relationships with the entire class.

Young adults with cancer often face challenges different from those of children and older adults. Our mission is to provide clinical services and programs that validate and support the needs of young adults with cancer. We are committed to easing the emotional burden of living and coping with cancer; empowering young adults to become active participants in their cancer treatment; and providing emotional and social support in the form of educational workshops, conferences, opportunities to network with other young adults with cancer, and clinical mental health services Many of our programs are open to young adult patients regardless of where they are treated, but if you are a patient at Dana-Farber between the ages of 18 and 39, you can connect with other patients going through similar experiences in our private online community, dana-farber-yap.org. In response to the rising rates of diabetes in the Asian American population and the lack of culturally relevant research, clinical care, and education, Joslin Research Director George L. King, MD and friends of Joslin Diabetes Center established the AADI in 2000.
Our center brings together medical and surgical experts supported by a full-service laboratory and radiology services. Our transplant teams have access to all medical and surgical specialties in the hospital for consultations.
The NIDCAP Federation International (NFI) promotes the Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP). NIDCAP is the most comprehensive, evidence-based model of developmentally supportive care and assessment for preterm and fullterm newborns and their families in the hospital, and the transition home. Challenge and Opportunity Research has documented the beneficial effect of NIDCAP in terms of shorter intensive care and overall hospital stay, better weight gain and improved behavioral outcomes that endure beyond infancy. Studies have also documented that the NIDCAP approach enhances brain structure and function when measured by sophisticated medical techniques such as EEG and MRI. Challenge and Opportunity The incidence of preterm birth, worldwide, is rapidly increasing. In the US, the incidence of prematurity currently stands at 12.7%. Over 25% of all preterm infants are also born too small for their gestational age. These infants present immediate and significant challenges to their parents and to their caregivers in Newborn Intensive Care Units. They are hypersensitive, difficult to feed, and difficult to calm. More than 50% will go on to develop learning and emotional disabilities, requiring special education and mental health services. The challenge is even greater in developing countries.
Our programs provide pathways to careers in healthcare along with intensive and comprehensive, educational employment and mentoring opportunities. In collaboration with other DFCI departments, we develop and deliver learning experiences for both adults and youth in order to fill the pipeline to allied health, research and healthcare administration careers with well prepared, highly skilled, engaged and diverse candidates from our local communities. Please read on to discover more about each program: • Student Training Programs: In an effort to “grow our own,” Workforce Development identifies, manages and coordinates initiatives to introduce, expose and develop the next generation of healthcare professionals through our summer jobs programs, school-year internship programs, and job shadow experiences. We serve students from three Boston Public Schools: the Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, John D. O’Bryant School of Math & Science, and Fenway High School. • Adult Development Programs: Primarily serving front-line and entry level staff, Workforce Development manages initiatives and facilitates curriculum to support the acquiring of and/or improving of the necessary skills and knowledge to advance one’s career. Curriculum offerings include School At Work® and Pre College Math and English. Other services include career advising and academic coaching. • Community Engagement: Identify opportunities to create, sustain and further enhance DFCI’s visibility within the Boston community.
